UNITED STATES" PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM R. BROUGH, OF EAST ORANGE, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO WESTERN ELEC- TRIC COMIBANY, INCORPORATED, OF YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
-EIJEKJ']!RON-DISCHARGE DEVICE.
Application filed May 13, '1922. Serial at. 560,648.
To all whom it-may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM R. BROUGH, a citizen of the United States, residin at East Orange, in the county of Essex, tate of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electron-Discharge Devices, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description.
This invention "relates to electron discharge devices and especially to alcooling system therefor.
Certain types of high power electron discharge devices comprise a metallic cupshaped member which forms a portion of i the enclosing vessel and acts as the anode of the device. In the operation of these devices, it is customary to enclose the metallic portion with a jacket --into which a cooling fluid is introduced to remove from the anode the heat developed in it during" the operation of the device.
fluid-tight connection between the water jacket and the metallic portion of the device. An additional object of the inventlon 1s a simple and eflicient means for attachin an electron discharge device to the water we at.
Other objects and novel features of this invention will be apparent from the following specification and accompanying drawing wherein Fig. 1 is a sectional view p'artially in elevation of an embodiment of the invention, and Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof.
A water jacket is provided with inlet and outlet ports 11 and 12 and at its upper inwardly projecting screw-threaded annular flange, an electron discharge device oom-v end has an inwardly projecting flange 13 in which is provided a screw threaded aper- .ture.
nut. Interposed between the upper portion of the collar and the flange 13 is a gasket 17.
" The device 15 with the collar 16 attached thereto is screwed into the flan e 13 and tightened against the gasket 1v until a water-tight connection is obtained. Durin the operation of the device',. water is caused to circulate through the jacket from the inlet 11 to the'outlet 12 and serves to maintain.
the anode 14at a sufficiently low tempera- An object of this invention is .to effect a ture to insure proper operation of'the device.
The inventionclaimed is: In combination, a water jacket having an prising ail-envelope having a metal portion, and a screw-threaded collar carried by said metal portion to cooperate with said flange to roduce a water-tight connection between sai water. jacket and said metalp' ortionl I In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my namethis IOth day of May A. D}, 1922.
