Description

H. A. MALLORY POOL CUE TIP Filed March 30, 1925 manne Ys Cil UNITED STATES PATENT OFF-ICE.
HOWARD A. MALLORY, 0F COOPERSTOWN, NEW YORK.
POOL-CUE purr.
Application filed March 30, 1925. Serial No. 19,325.
To all whom` it 77mg/ concern:
Be it known that I, HOWARD A. MAnLonY, a citizen ot' the United States, residing at Cooperstown, in the county oi Otsego and State ot' NewY York, have invented certain new and usc't'ul Improvements in Pool-Cue Tips, of which the 'Following is a specification, reference being made therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to pool cue tips. t
It is the object oit my invention to provide a pool cue tip which will be rigid, strong and durable and readily detachable.
lt is my object to provide a tip such as leather which may be renewable when detachable, but which when once attached will be permanently and rnily engaged With the cue.
It is a further object to provide both a detachable tip and a detachable head tor the cue.
It is a. further objectol my invention to provide a detachable head and a detachable tip so that either or both may be detached -from the cue.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure l is a side elevation of the coniplete eue with detachable tip;
Figure 2 is a section through one form of the detachable head and detachable cue tip; and
Figure 3 is a view ot a modilied ttorm ot the detachable tip.
Referring' to the drawings in detail.` l is the main sha'tt of the cue Which has a narrow tubular outer end 2 With countersunk mrtions 3 for receiving' washers lto provide broad bearing; or thread surfaces for the screv.7 5 and additional shoulders surface or bearing' sur face to prevent the movement ot the sleeve 6 ot the detachable head from the tubular portion 2. T he inner end otl the sleeve at 7 abutsI against the shoulder S on the screw.
The outer end of the sleeve G carries a tubular member 9 which is internally threaded at l0 to receive the detachable threaded shaft ll which attaches the cue tip to the detachable head. This threaded member l1 is prevented from becoming unscreived by the set screw l2 which is carried in a detachable head.
The threaded member 1l carries a semicircular or conical head 18 upon which is mounted the leather cue tip le.
l prefer to have the cue made of Wood. the Washers 4 ot steel, the screws 5 and 12 of brass, and the detachable head olf aluminum. l also pieter to make the threaded member il andthe head 13 all ot alumi nnm While the cue tip 14 is o't leather.
ln Figure it will be seen that the shaft l of the cue is internally threaded at l0 to receive the threaded member 'll with the head 13. rThis head has a tapering base 15 which lits Within 'the conical countersunk.
portion 1G.
txvill be understood that I desire to comprehend within my invention such modifications as may be necessary to adapt it to varying` conditions ot use.
Having* thus fully describe-d my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a cue, a shaft, a head mounted thereon, a tip detachably mounted on the head consisting of a threaded member threaded in the head, a retaining' head. and a. yielding covering on the retaining` head to term the cue tip7 said covering being enclosed at the bottom between the bottom ot the retaining head and the end ot' the cue head.
2.111 a cue, a shaft, a head mounted thereon, a tip detachably mounted on the head consisting' et a threaded member threaded in the head, a relaininlfi` head. a yieldingl covering` on the retaining head to form the cue tinand screws to position the detachable tip on the head and the head on the eue shaft.
3. In a cue-, a shaitt, a countersunk end therefor, said end being internally thread ed a portion ot its leneth. a threaoed member adapted to engage with the internally7 threaded portion oit the end oi" the `cue shaftt, a cue tip having' a conical head and a tapered throat 'tor engaging with the countersunh portion ot the cue on the endv thereof, and a set screnv to position the de tachable tip ou said shaft.
In testimony whereof, I at'lix my signature.
