Be it known that I`WILL1AM E. Ilocii, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Light Bulbs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to vacuum-tube lights or lighting, and an object of the invention is to provide a vacuum-tube bulb having contacts spaced at its opposite ends which are adapted to be connected in circuit with a suitable energizing source for permitting the passingof electric currents through the vacuum-tube from one contact to the other `for the purpose of creating light, the brilliancy of which may be controlled by the frequency of the current passing therethrough.
Heretofore, in vacuum-tubes. of this type, various types of contacts such as exterior or interior caps have been provided and in the present invention, a simplified practical tube structure has been devised in which an electrode has been provided which is alike suitable for use as a positive or as a negative electrode which may therefore be employed for both electrodes of the lamp operated by alternating currents.
Other objects of the inventionwill appear in the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:

The electrodes 3 comprisestraight wires of any desired material and their inner ends project short'distances 'beyond'the inner ends of the ni ples 2, while their outer ends are flush wit and may engage or be Y formed upon the substantially rusto conical contacts 4 which are carried by the cap structures 5. The cap structures 5 include metal shells or caps 6 which are cemented in any suitable manner to the tube l as shown at 7 and the contacts 4 are insulated from the metal caps 6 by shells 8 of insulation. The contacts 4 have binding screws 9 formed thereon, on which suitable binding nuts 10 are threaded, to permit connection of electricv conducting wires 11 to the contacts at the oppositeends of the tube l.
It is, of course, to be understood that the invention may be constructed in other manners and the parts associated in dilferent relations and, therefore, I do not desiie to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claims hereunto appended.
Having thus described my invention what -I claim is:
1. A vacuum lighting tube including a tube of transparent insulating material having a rounded end, a nipple formed upon the axis of the .rounded end and extending a short distance into the tube, 'an electrode molded in said nipple and projecting a short distance into the tube beyond the inner end of the nipple, a cap mounted upon the end of said tube, the inner end of said cap embracing the walls of the tube, means embracing the 'end of the tube and spacing the.
