J. F. JOY
CONVEYER Oct. 27,1925. 1558550 Original Filed April 15, 1924 A TTORNE Y.
Patented a. 27, 1925.
umrap STATES PATENT OFFICE.
:osnrn 2. .101, or raauxnm, rmmsuvma, ABSIGHOB r0 ao'z mcmn coilrm, or rrrrssuaen, rnnnsrnvanu, a eonroaarron or nmwann comm Application fled April 15, 1824, Serial No. 708,856. Renewed September 1B, 1988.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnrn F. J or, a citizen of the United States, residing at Franklin, in the county of Venango and State of 5 Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Conveyers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new anduseful improvements in conveyers of the well known chain and scraper type and is particularly designed for use in loading machines of the type disclosed in my United States Letters Patent No. 1,306,064, dated June 10, 1919, although capable of general use.
An object of the invention is to improve the construction of the fli hts or scraper bars disclosed in my co-pen ing application for United States Letters Patent upon con- 9 veyers, filed Jan. 24, 1924, Ser. No, 688,183,
whereby such scraper bars are made extremely strong and urable, although simple and inexpensive to manufacture.
Otherobjectsmillappear as the nature of the invention is better understood, and the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawin and claimed.
characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary view, partly in plan and partly in section, illustrating a portion of a conveyer constructed in accordance with the present invention,
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of one of the scraper bars, detached,
Fig. 3 is an enlarged-end elevational view of the device shown in Fig. 2,
Fig. 4 is an enlarged transverse section taken on line 44 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 5. is a .view similar to Fig. 4 taken on line 5-5 of Fig.1.
Referrin more in detail to the several views, it Wlll be understood that the present improvement relates to the construction of the endless conveyer member in the above mentioned patent and application comprising broadly the chains -35- connected by transverse scraper bars, as at -36-, the
chains --35 broadly comprisingpairs of mner links 37- and outer links '38 pivotall connected by pins -40 and spaced y rollers +41-.
,In accordance with the present invention, the scralper bars -36- are of substantially mverte V-shape in cross section with -the front leg or flange.-F-- vertical and the othenflange F- longer and inclined, the latter flange being gradually increased in width from the ends to the center of the scraper bar so as to be of outwardly curved form as indicated at C. This gives great strength for withstanding the severe pressure of coal against the scraper bar when the conveyer is in use.
In order to further strengthen the sore er bar, and to enhance its loadingor conveym efliclency, the flange -F'- is formed wit a plurality of s aced ribs -R which merge with the said ange ad'acent its lower ed as at M and gradua y increase in heig t as shown in Fi 4 to the point where they terminate at t e juncture of the flanges -F and F'.
The chains are passed about sprocket wheels which "preferably have guide rollers at their inner sides, and in order to ermit passage of the scraper bars aroun these rollers, the ends of flange F are notched as at --N. 30 In the drawing, w erem like reference The ends of the scraper bars are formed with pairs of oppos1te extending ears 36'- adapted for free slidable reception upon the inwardly extending studs or heads 4:2- provided on certain ones of the pivot pins 40.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that the present conveyer scra er bar embodies all of the advantages of tlEat disclosed in my above mentioned co-pending application, and at the same time is more durable and efiicient in operation.
Minor changes may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. I
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is':-
. 1. In an endless chain and scraper eonveyer member, a scraper bar of substantially inverted V-sha e in cross section having one flange inclined and of gradually increased width from the ends to the center thereof.
2. In an endless chain and scraper conve er member, a scraper bar of substantially inverted Vesha e in cross section having one flange incline and of gradually increased width from the ends to the and a plurali of spaced transverse .ribs formed on sai flange.
3. In an endless chain and'scraper conve or member a scraper bar of substantia y inverted \i-sha in cross section having one flange inc ined and of gradually increased width from the ends to the center thereof, and a plurality of spaced transverse ribs formed on said flange, said ribs increasing in height toward and terminating at the point of juncture of the scraper bar flanges.
4. In an endless chain and scraper conveyer member, a scraper bar of substantially inverted V- hape in cross section having one flange inclined and of gradually increased width from the ends to the center 20 thereof, pairs of opposed link pivot pins center thereof,
having inwardly extending studs, and ears formed upon the ends of said scraper bar I freely telescoping onto said studs.
5. In an endless chain and scraper conveyer member, a scraper bar of substantially inverted V-shape in cross section having one flange inclined and of gradually increased width from the ends to the center thereof, pairs of opposed link pivot pins having inwardlg extending studs, and ears formed upon t sends of said scraper bar freely telescoping onto said studs, the remaining flan e of said scraper bar being vertical and aving notches in the ends of its free edge. a
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature. I
