Re it known that l. CARL MrcunnsnN. a citizen of Germany,.residing at. Rostock, in the State of Mecklenburg. Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Bookkeeping: and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact'description of the invention. such as vvill enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains, to make and use the same..
My invention relates to improvements in the method of"and apparatus Jfor bookkeeping, and the object of the improvements-` is to provide a. method ensuring the correctentry ot' commercial transactions by simultaneously making' an original and a copy of the registrations on the day-book and the individual accounts by means of a type- Writing machine. `With this object in yview l make ay continuous record on an original entry sheet representing the day-hook' and individual records on sheets of papen' cards or the like representing the account` books, said individual sheets oi' paper or cards being placed on or below the original entry sheet together with carbon paper tor making' a ,carbon copy. ln order that the items eptered on the individual account sheets he simultaneously entered in the correct columns ot' the original sheet or day-book the original sheet. and the account sheets are shi''tahle relatively to each other, and means are provided ior insuring the correct relative positions ot the lines and columns oi the sheets. Furthermore means are provided whereby neu' sheets placed on the original sheet or dayluook are brought into the correct positions relatively to the original sheet, so that the items are entered on the original sheet at the correct places.

ln my improved method ot bookkeeping by means ot' a` typewritng machine entries are simultanemisly made on an original entry sheet representing for example a dayhook, and on exchangeable sheets or cards adapted to be combined into account hooks. rl`he original sheet and the account sheets are simultaneoushv printed by means ot' arhon paper, the account. sheets" being' placed on or-helow the original sheet.. The key levers are arranged in a 'manner known in the art, and at each side of the ke)7 board-there is a kevv 4l for line spacing. The bar N operates the letter spacing mechanis-m 27 to 39. The key board comprises two shift keys for writing small letters and capitals and special signs. The operation ot' the shift keys will be described hereinafter.

lhile in describing the invention reference has been made to a particular construction of the typewriting machine. I wish it to be understood that my invention is not limited to the construction shown in the drawings, and that various changes may be made in the general arrangement of the machine and the construction of its parts without departing from the invention.
I claim:
1. A typewriting machine, comprising printing mechanism, a platen adapted to have sheets placed thereon, and means adapted to have a part of said sheets fixed thereto and to be shifted therewith over the surface of the platen.
2. A typewriting machine, comprising printing mechanism, a plane platen adapted to have sheets placed thereon, and a frame shiftable on said platen in the direction 'of the lines and provided with means for lixing a part of said sheets thereto.
3. A. typewriting machine, comprising printing mechanism, a plane platen adapted to hav-e sheets vplaced thereon, sheets provided with a series of Apei-felations disposed transversely of the lines and corresponding to the line spaces, and pins-on said platen in position for engagement with said perforations.
4. In a typewriting machine, the combination with the writing mechanism, of a carriage, letter' spacing mechanism therefor, a platen shiftable on the carriage in a direction transversely of the letter spacing movement thereof, means for holding a sheet on said platen, and -a member adapted to be moved together with the platen for indicating the line being printed.
5. In a typewriting machine, the combination, with the writing mechanism, of a platen, means for moving the platen for line spacing, and indicating means movable together with the letter spacing movement of the platen for indicating the line being printed.
6. In a typewriting machine, the combination, with the writing mechanism, of a carriage, letter spacing mechanism therefor, a platen 'shiftable on the carriage in a direction transversely of the letterj'spacing movement thereof and formed with a rack, a sprocket wheel engaging in said rack and bodily movable on said platen, and means on said carriage for stopping the bodily movement of the sprocket wheel.
7. A typewriting machine, comprising printing mechanism, a plane platen adapted to have sheets placed thereon, a frame shiftalile on said platen in the direction of the lines and provided with means for fixing a part of s'aid sheets thereto and with a rack disposed transversely of the lines, a sprocket wheel engaging in said racl and bodily movable on said fame, and a stop on said carriage in the path of the sprocket Wheel for arresting the bodily movement thereof.

A typewriting machine, comprising printing mechanism, a plane platen adapted to have sheets placed thereon, a frame shiftable on said plate;4 'in the direction of the lines and provided with means for fixing a part of said sheets thereto and with a raclc disposed transversely of the lines, a slide bodily movable on said frame transversely1 of the lines, a sprocket wheel mounted on said slide and engaging in said rack, and a stop on sai-:l carriage in the path of the slide for arresting the same.
9. A typewriting machine, comprising printing mechanism, a plane platen adapted to have sheets placed thereon, means shiftable in a plane parallel to the platen and provided with projecting pins, and a sheet formed with perforations adapted for engagement by said pins.

In a typewriting machine, the combination, with a frame, a carriage movable on said frame for letter spacing, and a plane platen on said carriage movable for line spacing, of type levers mounted on said frame at the rear of the carriage and rockable forwardly and downwardly for printing, key levers disposed on said frame below the carriage, and an operative connection between said key levers and type levers.

In a typewriting machine, the combination, with a frame, a carriage movable on said frame for letter spacing, and a plane platen on said carriage movable for line spacing, of type levers mounted on said frame at the rear of the carriage and rockable forwardly and downwardly for printing, key levers disposed on said frame helow the carriage, and vertical rods at. the rear of the carriage and connecting said key levers and type levers.
l2. In a typewriting machine, the combination, with a frame, a carriage movable on said frame for letter spacing, and a plane platen on said carriage movable for line spacing, of type leversmounted on said frame at the rear of the carriage and rockable forwardly and downwardly,7 for print.-
