w. E. WEEKS ADJUSTABLE CHAIN LINK Filed Feb. 14, 1925 Patented Oct. 20, 1925.
WILLIAM E. WEEKS. OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH.
ADJUSTABLE CHAIN LINK.
Application filed February 14, 1925.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. Venus, a citizen oi the United States, residing at Salt Lake City, in the county of Salt Lake and State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful ln'iprovements in an Advice illustrated in the accompanying draw-.
ings in which similar letters and numerals o't reference indicate like parts throughout the several views and as described in the specification and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings, of which I have shown the best and. most substantial embodiment of my invention, Figure 1 is a plan view of the device with the links shown drawn to gether as the chain is shortened, and Fig-- ure 2 is a side elevation of the device showingthe chain links in the extended position and dotted lines showing the links in the contracted position.
A metal plate A is provided having a serrated edge 1 for easier turning by hand Serial No. 9,108.
when the device is small. semicircular slots 2 and 3 are cut in the plate A, and which are offset from the axis of the said plate A, with their axes on the dian'ietrical line of said plate, and having their axes equidistant "from the axis of the said plate. Each of said slots being involute as to the axis of the said plate A. Small semicircular notches 4, 5, 6, and 7, are cut in the outside edges of the respective slots 2 and 8 for use when short adjustments are desired and the full adjustment is not required. The stress on the ends of the chain will keep the links 8 and 9 in the respective notches in which they are placed.
hen the device is made on a large scale a wrench may be used to turn the plate A to the desired notch for shortening the chain or cable used.
This device may be used in tightenin cables, ropes and wires as well as chains and could be used to tighten the wires on an air plane after they have become stretched from long use.
Having thus described my inventionl desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim A device of the class described comprising a circular plate having two semi-cin cular slots cut therein; notches in the out sine. edges of said slots; and links of a chain engaged with said plate through said slots.
In testimony whereof I have aiiixed my signature.
\VILLIAM E. WEEKS.
