Description
T. R. FRATTALLONE WELUBUCKBT CONSTRUCTION Filed Sent. 1. 1924- gnmntoz Patented Oct. 20, 1925.
residing at Bronx, New "Yo-rk',' in the county of New Yorkand State of New York,h ave invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVelLBucket Constructions, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in well buckets and has for its principal object to provide means for straining the water as the same enters the bucket from the well.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a Well bucket which is provided with a filling opening in the bottom thereof to facilitate a flow of water from the well into the bucket when the latter is lowered into the Well, means being provided for closing the filling opening when the bucket is raised out of the well.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a well bucket construction of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable, and further well adapted for the purpose for which it is designated.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same.
The figure represents a vertical sectional View of the well bucket embodying my invention.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates a metallic well bucket, the bail therefor being illustrated at 2. The bot tom 3 of the bucket is provided with the filling openings 4:, whereby the water in the well may enter the bucket when the latter is lowered into the Well.
Extending around the filling openings 4 in the bottom 3 of the bucket 1, is the casing 5 which is formed of fine mesh wire and provides a means for straining the water as the same enters the bucket from the well. Any suitable fastening means, such as is shown at 6 is provided for securing a for min us c si g in po it n Within 11 1034 seriatm. vs 011 Adapted 'i. ni o veinent' the foraminous casing 5 isthe closure 7 for thew-filling .openings 4, the same: being pref- A V buoketarou-nd theifi'lling ipening 4;',, H l-- TALLQNE, av citizen 0: the U-ni'tedi Statesg erably fomned offimibben in the -sl-i'ape' of; a
disc. Themanner in which the rubber disc functions will hereinafter be more fully described.
A strainer element 8 of finer mesh wire than that used in the formationor construction of the' foraminous casing 5 is disposed in the lower portion of the bucket above the casing5, and any suitable fastening means, such as is shown at 9 is provided for securing the additional strainer element 8 in position within the bucket. In use, the bucket 1 is lowered into the well. Upon the bottom of the bucket coming in contact with the water in the well, the water pressure will raise the rubber disc 7 upwardly within the casing 5, and enable the bucket to be filled with water from the well, the strainers 5 and 8 in the mean time filtering the water as the same is emptied into the bucket. When the bucket is full it is raised, and as a result the downward pressure of the water in the bucket will force the closure 7 downwardly in the casing 5, simultaneously closing the filling openings 4 and preventing any possibility of the water within the bucket leaking out through the filling openings.
It will thus be seen from the foregoing description that a well bucket has been provided, which will enable water to be obtained from a well in a strained condition. Furthermore, the operation of the filling opening closure means will at all times be positive and efiicient, as well as automatic.
lVhile I have shown the preferred em bodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit of the invention, and the scope of the appended claims. v
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. In a well bucket, having filling openings in the bottom thereof, a filter in the bottom of the bucket disposed around the openings, and a pressure operated closure for the openings.
2. In a well bucket having filling openings in the bottom thereof, a casing of I foraminous material supported inthe bottom around the openings, and a pressure tom of the bucket disposed over the filling openings, an additional filter supported in the lower portion of the bucket spaced above the casing, and a pressure operated closure for the filling openings in said'casing. I
4. In awell bucket having filling openture.
THEODORE R. FRATTALLONE.
ings in the bottom thereof, a casing of foraminous material supported in the bottom of the bucket and disposed over the filling openings, an additional filter supported in the, lower portion of the bucket spaced above the casing, and a rubber disc adapted for vertical movement in the easing, said disc being held out of engagement withthe openings'when the bucket is being filled, the disc being adapted to close the filling openings by the downward, pressure of the Water in the bucket, when the latter is raised out of the Well.
In testimony "whereof I affix my signa-;
