A bridle 42 having connection with the bucket 22 or connecting rods adjacent the trunnions 29 and also at the forward edge of the bottom wall 23 is provided for the purpose of drawing lthe bucket rearwardly and into tipping position, the bridle having a running connection through a ring 43 with a tipping line 44 which is led through the sheave 41 up and through a further sheave 45 at the upper extremity of the track 38 and around a drum 46 of the winch 19.
It will be noted that the pull of the tipping line 44, when the counterweight 40 is in normal position or at rest, is effected o-n the bucket at a point above its vertical centre (see Fig. 5) so that the bucket is kept in line with its connecting rods 28. As the pull is increased and the bucket is swung out of the vertical, the counterweight is f raised along its inclined track 38, the line of pull being exerted at a lower level on the bucket to correspond withthe raising of the counterweight while still maintaining the bucket in parallelism with its connecting rods (see Fig. 6). As the pull is increased the counterweight is drawn to the upper, end of its track as shown in dotted line in Figure l, the bridle 42 becoming so disposed about the bucket as to exert a pull below its vertical centre thus tipping the bucket to discharge its contents. As a means for insuringthe tipping of the bucket in the event of its being but lightly loaded and its centre of gravitybeing below the lowest line of pull of the tippingline, a stop 47 is provided which arrests the rearward swing of the connecting rods 28 and causes the entire pulling force to be exerted upon the bucket v below its pivotal point.
Having ythus described the several parts of my invention I will now briefly explain its operation. V
The dredge is moved into position over the ground to be dredged and the bucket 22 lowered by unwinding the line 17 oli7 the drum 18, when it has reached the bed to be dredged it is turned over to present its digging prongs 27 to the gravel and is drawn forward by winding in the line 32, the bucket is then raised, lwhen the release of tension on the line 32 allows itv to assume a vertical position. Vhen the bucket is raised to the desired height it ris drawn rearward and tipped to discharge as hereinbefore described.
Vhat I claim asmy invention is:
1.l In a dredge having a pair of vertical standards and a head, of a crosshead slidable along the standards, a dredging bucket suspended for swinging movement below the crosshead7 means for lowering and raising the crosshead and bucket for upsettingl and drawing the bucket forward to fill andraiter illing to restore the bucket to normal position, and means for inverting the bucket to discharge after raising.
2. In a dredge having avpair of vertical standards and head, of a crosshead slidable along the standardsa dredging bucket sus pended for swinging movement below the crosshead and normallyadapted to dredge at right angles to the crosshead, means for drawing the bucket forward to fill at a tangent to the crosshead, means for lowering and raising the crosshead andbucket, means oraligning the bucket with the crosshead whenraising, and means forinverting the bucket to discharge after raising.
3. In a dredge having a pair of vertical standards and a head, of a crosshead slidable along the standards, a bale pivotally connected below the crosshead, connecting Y rods swingingly connected to opposite ends of the bale and pivotally carrying a dredging bucket, a line-for lowering and raising the crosshead and bucket and a bridle connecting said rope and bale and passing through the crossheadA whereby the bale may be swun out of parallelism with the crosshead an such parallelism restored by the tension of the crosshead upon the line.
4. In a dredge having a swinging bucket adapted for lowering and raising, .said

5. In a dredge having a swinging bucket adapted for lowering and raising, said bucket being pivotally mounted on trunnions between connecting lrods and normally hangingv in line therewith, of a bridle one end of which is connected beneath the bucket and the other eind adjacent to the trunnions, and a hauling line runningly connected to the bridle that the initial pull is exerted above the centre of' gravity of the bucket and the iinal pull is exerted below the centre of gravity to tip it about its trunnions.
6. In a dredge having. a swinging bucket adapted for` lowering and raising, said bucket being: pivotally mounted on trunnions between connecting rods and normally hanging in line therewith, of a bridle one end of which is connected beneath the bucket and the other end adjacent to the trunnions, and a hauling line connected to the bridle7 said hauling line being adapted to raise a counterweight as the pull thereon is increased to alter the height ofthe pull upon Y bucket being pivotally mounted on trunnions between connecting rods and normally hanging in line therewith, of a bridle one end of which is connected beneath the bucket and the other end adjacent to the trunnions, and a hauling line connected to the bridle, an Ainclined track having a counterweight movable therealong, said line being lead from the bridle toa sheave upon the counterweight thence over a sheave at the upper 10 end of the inclined track and from thence to a Winding drum. e
