rnnnnnrci: n. woo EY, MArrA-SQUAN, New JERSEY. Ewermc LIGHTING UNIT.
Application filed September 18, 1924. Serial No. 738,500.
To all w/zomz't may concern:
Be it known that LFnnnnmcKE. WooLEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Manasquan, in the county of Monmouth and State of New Jersey, have invented a new ing Unit, of which the following isa full, 0 car, and exact description. v is invention relates to electric lighting units. i
v appearance, and in coupling devices are lore specifically the following objects may be enumeratedport for so-called close up single unit electric fixtures, whereby such fixture can be supported fronrthe threaded stud which forms a part of standard outlet devices, eliminating the exterior wood screws now commonly used. 1 I ,7
To prdvide a means by which such fixture can be more securely and more quickly attached to the surface upon which they are to be mounted.
To provide a means. by which such fixtures can be more readily detached for inspection of theoutlet and for cleaning, without the lamp socket.
0 provide a meansofinsulating such fixtures from the grounded metal equipment of the wiring system without the use of a threaded joint.
With theseand other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts whic will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim. 1
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of m proved yoke and coupling plate wit screws connecting them;
Figure2 is a view in longitudinal section showing my improved mechanism in cona lamp shell;
Figure 3 is an end view of the lamp shell. I n connection with my invention I have a standard type and shape of shell 1 adapted to positioned the ceiling or other support 2 and imthe lamp against and Improved Electric Light with the line wires, omitted 4 they entirely. en ,tion.
,To provide an adjustable means of su disturbing the electrical connection or adapted to enclose the standard type of outlet 3 which is fixed to the ceiling. It is of course to be understood is not limited to the particular or proportions of the shell shape sh only. i
The standard outlet now required in most parts of the country provides means for connecting the terminals of the lamp socket and I have purposely showing the wire connections as form no part of th only tend to obscure the construcdesi n shape and that the would 'Standard outlets of this type are made with a depending screw-threaded stud 4, and on this stud 4 I secure my improved yoke 5. Th' and is thread end portions 7 of the yoke are preferably flattened or restricted in depth and amp vided with screw-threaded openingsS rejected through openings 10 plate 11, the heads 12 .of th located below the plate. 1
The plate 11is made with a central screwthreadedopening 13' to receive a threaded nipple 14 on the standard lamp socket 15.
is plate ll is also provided at'its edge with any desired-number of outwardly rojecting lugs 16for a purpose which will appear.
The shell 1 is provided with an internal annular flange 17 and said flange is made with recesses 18 corresponding in number and relative location to the number and relative location ofthe lugs 16 of plate 11, so that this plate may be inserted in position in the shell, the lugsl6 passing through the recesses 18, and, when the plate is turned or the shell is turned relative to the plate to bring the ln out of register with the recfissias, the p ate will serve to support the s e In assembling the parts, the screws 9 are loosened so that there is sufiicient permit a ready coupling and when coup t e screws are tig tened by an ordinary screw driver to clamp the shell ceiling and rigidly couple the su ort.
ile I have referred to the'plate 11 as having lugs and the flange 17 as having reagainst the e invention and.
play to 3 5 unit to its r own is for purposes of illustration cesses, exact reversal oi these parts with t e funcparts describe tion and o eration alike.
I woul also have it understood that to the precise I while I have illustrated a particular type myself at liberty to m of shell of two sections having the flange changes and alterations as 17 formed by con ling flanges of the two in the spirit-"and scope of auntie it is obvious that there ma be an mightbe in sections, I do not imit myself inthis parclaim.
I ticular as; l desir to cover broadly the I claim: 10 construction and arrangement of parts The combin whether made as illustrated or not. 'Itwill thus. be noted that with a construc- -yoke adapted .to tion of this kind, the entire coupling means an outlet 'devic is enclosed within the shell, that outside atsaid plate and W taching -o'r su porting 'means is entirely cesses an 'done away wit and that the coupling and the @1123 uncoupling of the shell with the support projec can beeaslly' and quickly efiected whenever mounte occasion may require. a I 'Various slight changes and alterations ads in the general for (1 without departing hence I do not invention, and
details set forth inturned flange,
