Be it known that I, NORA A. MYnns, a

citizen of the United States residin at' Forsyth, in the county of Rosebud and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Abdominal Supporters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The object of this invention is to support the abdomen of fleshy or corpulent females whereby to secure comfort, reduce obesity and secure a flat frontal appearance.

Th invention provides an attachment for a corset, brassiere, band-eau or the like, which attains the objects indicated herein and which may be readily applied to the article of wearing apparel and which will not cause discomfort or any undue pressure productive of serious or unpleasant results.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.

lVhile the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that in. adapting the same to meet different conditions and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the in 'vention.

lVhile the invention is shown applied to a corset of ordinary construction, it is to be understood that it is adapted to be applied to a brassiere, bandeau or analogous article. The invention resides in complemental strips 1 which are attached to the lower portion of the corset or analogous article below the waistline so as to form a pocket Serial No. 707,750.

adapted to receive the fleshy part of the abdomen to form a support and ultimately result in reducing the flesh and to produce a flat frontal effect which is desirable. The strips 1 are disposed upon opposite sides of a central line and, as shown, each is attached to the half 2 of a corset below the waistline and adjacent the front edge bordering upon the opening. The strips 1 are of fabric and are stitched along the top edge to the corset, as indicated at 3, a plait 4 being formed to provide ample fullness essential to the formation of a pocket. The strip 1 is folded on a diagonal line and the inner edge or that edge nearest the front center is attached to the corset or other garment at a point below the stitching 3 and outwardly therefrom towards the front opening or central line of the garment, as indicated at 5. The folded portion is sufiiciently full to result in the formation of a pocket when the loose edges of the strips 1 are brought together and fastened. The fastening means shown consists of hooks 6 and eyes 7, although it is to be understood that any preferred type of fastoning may be employed.

hen the garment is worn, the loose ends of the strips 1 are brought together and fastoned, thereby providing a pocket 8 upon the inner side of the garment below the waistline and in position to receive the fleshy part of the abdomen which is adjusted so as to enter the pocket 8 and be supported thereby. The usual pressure exerted by the garment tends to reduce the flesh without producing any bad effect, and the formation of the garment is such as to insure a flat frontal. effect.

hat is claimed is:

1. A garment adapted to be secured about the body and provided upon the inner side of its front below the waistline with a pocket adapted to receive the abdomen, said pocket comprising strips which are attached along their ends and'substantially horizontally to the garment and which are adapted to fold upon diagonal lines so that they may be disposed laterally and have their inner edges attached to the garment and which are provided at their loose ends with fastening means whereby to connect the strips and form the pocket.

2. A garment adapted to be secured about the body and provided upon the inner side of its front below the .waistline with a pocket adapted to receive the abdomen, said pocket comprising strips which are attached along their ends and substantially horizontally to the garment and which are adapted to fold upon diagonal lines so. that they may be disposed laterally and have their inner edges attached to the garment and which are provided at their loose ends with fastening means whereby to connect the strips and form the pocket, the u per ends of the strips having plaits or flat olds whereby to produce the requisite fullness.
