Be it' known that I,.DAv1s MARINSKY, a citizen of t e United States, and residing `at Bronx the county of Bronx and State of New York, have lnvented certain new and useful improvements in Fastening Devices, of which the following is a speciication, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to fastening devices and particularly to devices lozf this class adapted to couple and uncouple two' Aor more .parts together to retain sald parts in locked position against accidental displacement when coupled together; .and the object of the inventlon is to provide adevice of the class and for the purpose specied, the separate cooperative members oi which are each constructed of a strand otpredetermined materialV upon which are mounted, in juxtaposition, independent catch devices -i'c'ashioned from rods or wires.

employ a plurality of links or catch devices 20, which in the construction shown are preferably in the form of anv eyelet, commonly known in the art of fastening devices, sald eyelet having a large central loop`20l andy smaller loops 20b and 20c disposed at the side portions of the large loop. f The first step 1n the process of forming my improved fastening device or the separate members thereof, the link 20 is fashioned to bring the loops 20b and 20c there of into juxtaposition side by side and 1n axial alinement, after'which or in the same operation, the large loop 20a is fashioned to form a concave face 20d and convex face 20e or into substantially hook formation as clearly seen in Fig. 7 of the drawing, it being un- 'derstood that said concave and convex faces extend transversely of the link as viewed from one side thereof.
After the links 20 have been formed in the manner above described or produced from a piece of wire fashioned directly into the form shown in Fig.- 7 by meansl of a suitablemachine, said links are laced upon a mounting strand or body 21 vW ich may be apiece of fabric, string, cord and the like or a piece of wire cable or similar flexible and strong and durable material in the man-- ner partially indicated in Fig. 8 of the drawing so that the loops 20b and 20 of the separate links lie snugly one upon theI other, the l vdouble loops serving to equally space thev Vlinks 2O one from the other when mounted upon the strand or mounting 21 as clearly seen in Fig. 8 of the drawing. In Fig. 1 1 of the drawing, I have indicated the method of'passing the loops 20* through the strip 22 and in dotted lines, I have shown the strip 22 folded around the strand 21 and the loops 20b and 20c thereon' to enclose the bound ends of the links and to form a casing or finishing strip' therefor. The strip 22 is also preferably used in securing the separate fasteningdevices made in the manner set out to predetermined articles or devices such for example as the iiaps or wings 23 and 24 of an overshoe or similar article as seen in Fig. 1 of the drawing and also indicated in Fig. 2 of the drawing.
It will be understood that after the separate parts of one fastening device have been made in accordance withthe above method and of a required length and with links of the required size or dimensions, the separate parts of the vfastening device are coupled together by a coupling block 25 substantially V-shaped in form in plan, and as shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 10 of the drawing is fashioned from a single metallic body open at one end as shown at 25a in the form of a single passage and the opposite end portion of which is divided into separate passages 25b and 25 by a V-shaped partit1on wall 25d while the sides of the body are also provided with apertures 25e and 25t opening through the opposite ends of the body and outwardly through said sides and into the passages thereof. The apertures 25 and 25t are formed by'inwardly directed flanges 25S at the opposite sides of said block as clearly seen in Fig. 10 of the drawing.
In Fig. 2 of the drawing, I have indicated at 26 and 27 two independent parts of a fastening device, said parts being joined or coupled together at one end, the end 28 indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawing in the usual or any desired manner, while the other end portions are free and adapted to be moved toward and from each other in the operation of 'my fastening device, the last named end portions having stop members 29 'to limit the movement of the coupling block 25 and to prevent the displacement of said block from the. separate members 26 and 27. It will be seen on a consideration of Figs. 2` and 3 of the drawing that the links 20 of the separate members 26 and 27 interlockv ing end portion of the links 20 of the other of said members, said links are also retained against transverse displacement or side movement one upon the other when saidv links are coupled together. lt will also be noted that vthe flanges 25g cooperate 4with the loops 20a of the links in the, coupling and uncoupling of the members 26 and 27. In Fig. 12 of the drawing, l have diagruammatically illustrated a modied use of the invention in which a'locked rod 32- is vused in connection with the members 26 and 27 and is adapted to be passed through the loops 20?"of both of said members for positively locking the same against forcible displacement or separation, the rod being headed at one end as shown at 33 and provided with an aperture 34 at the other end to facilitate the placement of aseal, lock or the like on the last named end ortion to prevent the, rod from being acci entally or otherwise removed from the members 26 and 27. lt will be understood that the members 26 and 27 'have -not been shown completely inl Fig. 1,2 as said ligure is only' the separate parts oa modified :tor'm ofV coupling block 35 which is of the same general shape and form as. the block 25 here-V tofore described but whichI is composed of sheet metal having top and bottom plates 36 and 37 of similar form and construction and an intermediate partition wall" plate 38 V-shaped in form and having upwardly and downwardly directed prongs 39 adapt- Y ed to enter apertures 40 in the plates 36 and 37 for securing the parts 36, 37 and 38 together. It will be understood' however, that my invention is, not necessarily limited to any l specific method of constructing the coupling block 25 nor to the use of the attaching or finishing strip constituting a casing-for the separate parts of the fastening device, nor

A device of the class described comprising two coupling bodies each of said `bodies comprising a plurality of independently formed link members, means named means in such a manner as to pre? vent the lateral movement of said link members thereon, and a coupling block movably disposed on said bodies for coupling and uncoupling the same.

A device of the class described comprising two coupling bodies, each of said bodies comprising a plurality of independently formed link members, means for mounting said link members one upon the other. and in common alinement and for flexibly coupling said link members to ether, the parts of said link members on said means being in juxtaposition and abutting and thicker than the free parts thereof for s acing said free parts one from the other, sald link members being secured to said irst named means in such a manner as to prevent the lateral movement of said link members thereon, a casing mounted upon said first named means and encircling predetermined portions of said link members, and a couplin block movably disposed on 'said bodies or coupling and uncoupling the same.

A device ot the class described composed of two coupling bodies, each of said bodies comprising a plurality of independently formed link members, means for mounting said link members one upon the other and in common alinemcnt and for coupling said link members together, the parts of said link members on said means eing in juxtaposition and abutting, said mounting means being flexible, means on said link members for spacing the same one from( the other, said link members being secured to said rst named means in such manner as to prevent lateral movement of said link members thereon, a casing mounted upon said irst named means and encircling predetermined 4portions of said link members and said casing having a projecting portion to facilitate the mounting thereof in connection with a suitable support, and a coupling member movable on -sal bodies for coupling and uncoupling the same.

A fastening device of the class deed to be coupled and uncoupled one with the other, means movabl disposed thereon for coupling and uncoup ing said members, each of said members comprising a mounting strand and a pluralityy of independently formed links mounted directly upon said strand with that portion of the links on said strand in juxtaposition and abutting and fixedly secured thereto.
7. A fastening device of the class described comprising separate members adapted to be relation and adapted to interlock.

A fastening device of the class describedcomprising separate members ada ted to be coupled and uncoupledone with t ie other, means movably disposed thereon for coupling and uncoupling said members, each of said members comprising a mounting strandl and a plurality of independently formed links mounted directly upon said strand with that portion of the links on said strand in juxtaposition and abutting and fixedly secured thereto, the projecting portion of the links of said members being in spaced relation and aldapted to interlock, said projecting portion being hook-shaped in form, and means movably disposed longitudinally of the separate members for moving the projecting hook-shaped portions of the links thereof into and out of engagement with each other. A fastening device of the class described comprising separate members adapted to be coupled and uncoupled one with the other, each of said members comprising a mounting strand anda plurality of independentlyformed links mounted upon said strand in juxtaposition and fixedly secured thereto, the projecting portion of the links of one of said members being adapted to interlock with the projecting portions'of the links ofthe other member, means movably disposed longitudinally of the separate members for moving the projecting portions of the links thereof into and out of en age- -ment with each other, and the links o one of said members having upwardly curved ortions while the links of the other memer are provided with downwardly curved ortions to prevent separation of sald mem- Bers when coupled together.

A fastening device of the class described comprising separate members ada ted to be coupled and uncoupled one with e i scribed comprismgseparate members adaptother, each of said members comprising a links ofthe other member, means movably disposed longitudinally of the separate members for moving theprojecting portions of the links thereof into .and out of engagement with each other, the links of one of said members having upwardly curved portions while the links of the other member are provided with downwardly curved portions to prevent separation of said members when coupled together, and means on each of said link members for equally spacing the same one from another on the separate strands.

A-fastening device of the class described comprising separate members adapted to be coupled and uncoupled one with the other, each of said members comprising a mounting strand and a plurality of independently formed links mounted upon said `strainl in juxtaposition and fixedly secured thereto, the projecting portion of the'links of one of said members being adapted to interlock with the projecting portions of the links of ythe other member, means movablyl disposed longitudinally of the separate members for moving the projecting portions of' the links thereof into and out of engagement with each other, the links of one of said membershaving upwardly curved portions while the links of the other member are provided with downwardly curved portions to prevent separation of said members when coupled together, means on each of said link'members for equally spacing the same one from another on the separate strands,
and means for enclosing that portion ofthe link members -mounted .on the separate strandsl2. A fastening device of the class described comprising separate members adapted to be coupled and uncoupled one with the other, each of said members comprising a mounting strand and a plurality of independently formed links mounted upon said' strand in juxtaposition and fixedly secured thereto, the projecting portion of the links of one of sai members being adapted to interlock with the projecting portions of the links of the other member, means movably disposed longitudinally of the separate `members for' moving the. vprojecting portions of the thereof intoand out of engagement with each other, the links of one of said members having upwardly curved portions while the links of the other member are provided with downwardly curved ortions to prevent se aration of said mem ers when coupled toget er, means on each of said link members for equally spacing the' same and said last named means facilitating the A,
mounting of the separate members in connection with suitable supports.

A device of the class described com- Vposed of two coupling bodies, each of said bodies comprising a mountin strand and: a plurality of links adapted to e mounted on said strand, with that part of the links on said strand in juxtaposition and abutting, the other part of said links projecting radially :from said strand in longitudinal alinement and equally spaced one from the other by the first named part of said links, and means movably disposed on said bodies for coupling and uncoupling the same.

A device of the class described comvprisin a mounting strand and a. plurality of lin s adapted to be mounted on said strand, with that part of the links on said strand in juxtaposition, the other part of said links projecting radially from said 4strand in longitudinal alinement and equally spaced one from the other bythe first named part of said links, the projecting portions of said links being in the form of closedloops, the outer end portions of which are fashioned to form hook-shaped ends, and means movably disposed with relation to said link members for coupling and uncoupling the same.

A device of the class describedcomosed of two coupling bodies, each of said. odies comprising a -plurality of independently formed wire link members, said link members being composed of three single loops, two of which are adapted to be brought together in common alinement and the other of which projects radially from the first named loops, a mounting strand upon which said link members are mounted,
said strand passing through the first named loops of said link members and said loops bein secured to said strand, and a coupling loop portions, means for mounting said link members upon one another with said loop ortions in common axialv alignment an lor coupling said link members together with that portion of said link members on said means in juxtaposition and abutting.

A device of the class described comprising amounting strand-and a plurality of wire links mounted on said strand withA that vpart of the links on said strand in juxta osltion and abutting, the other part of said links comprising closed loop ortions projecting radially from said stran in longitudinal axial alignment and equally s aced one from the other by the first name part of said links. A fastening device comprising two coupling bodies, each of said odies comprising a plurality of independently formed wire link members mounted upon a exible strand, and having projecting closed loop portions in longitudmally axial alignment and means movably disposed on said bodies vfor couplin and uncouplin the link members of one ody with relation to the other.

A fastening device com rising two coupling bodies, each of said b les comprising a pluralit of independently formed wire link mem ersmounted upon a iiexible strand, and having projecting closed loop portions in longitudinally axlal ali ent means movably disposed on said bo ies for coupling and uncoupling the link members of one body with relation to the other, and means for mounting said bodies in connection with a suitable support, said means engaging said flexible strand and the link members mounted thereon.
