i new and useful Improvements in Faucets,
of which the following is a specification.
` My invention relates to improvements in faucets, and has for its object to provide a faucet adaptable for use as an ordinary discharge faucet, a drinking fountain, and a sprayer for `use as in spraying a stream upon dishes, vegetables, etc., for cleansing purposes. j Y i My invention consists particularly in the improved features of construction and combination whereby the three characters of water discharging, i. e., the ordinary full discharging, the spraying, and the drinking fountain discharge maybe regulated with the minimum number of parts and simplicity of construction and with a maximum of eiiiciency, and to this end consists in the features of construction and combination hereinafter particularly described and claimed.

The `conduit is formed with a downwardly extending discharge branch 5, having a discharge opening 6.; The discharge branch is exteriorly threaded at 7 to be screwed into the interior threaded upper end of the connecting sleeve 8, the latter being formed" with a shoulder 9 opposed to the end of the branch 5. .f i 1 Swiveled in the sleeve 8 is the upwardly extending portion 10 of the body 11 of w improved combination faucet, said upwardly extending portion 10 being formed at its `upper end with an outwardly extending shoulder 12, between which andthe shoulder 9 is adapted to be interposed `a l" packing 13. The body 11 is in the form of a right-angled elbow, formed with a vertical bore 14 and a connecting bore 15 extending at right angles to the vertical bore,
The bore 15 is inwardly tapered to receive the tapered inner end of the spout 16. The spout `16 is held within the elbow 11 by means of a collar 17 threaded over the horizontally projecting end of the elbow and litting over the spout.
The spout, inside of the collar 17, is formed with a circumferential flange 18, between which flange and the collar 17 is po sitioned the packing ring 19 and the slidable gland ring 20 surrounding the spout. Thus, by tightening the collar 17, pressure is obtained against the flange 18 of the spout through the intermediate packing and and maintain a water tight joint.
The spout is tubular for its length and formedwith a closed inner end, thel spout being formed adjacent to the closed inner end with a port opening 21 and with a sur- Agland rings to hold the spout in position rounding annular port 22 in alinement with 'the port 21 and of relatively small area.
The outer end of the spout is formed with a laterally directed nozzle 23, having a cen'- tral discharge opening 24 connected with the interior opening 25 extending lengthwise rated wall 29, which constitutes a perforated discharge `for the annular opening 26.
Fitted within the` outer end of the spout is arotarycontrolling valve 30, closed, at its out-er end and having a central passageway 43l.
The valve is held in position in the nozzle by the screw threaded cap 32, having interior threaded engagement in the end of.
the nozzle. The valve is adapted to be rotated by 'the handle 33 secured upon its outer end and the rotation of the valve is limited by a stop 34, secured in the wall of the nozzle and iitting into a slotted opening 35 in the inner end of the valve. The valve-30 is normally held pressed outward by a coil spring 39, seated behind the valve. The pressure of the coil spring thus tends to hold the valve in adjusted posit-ions.
The valve is formed in its side wall'with a pair of openings 36 and 37, in alinement, respectively, with the discharge opening24 and the port 27 the openings 36 and 37 be ing circumterentially spaced apart so that the valve may be turned to bring either de,- sir'ed port into register with either discharge opening.' The valve is also preferably formed: with an opening 38 to register with the discharge opening 24 when the opening 37 is in registration with the discharge port My construction is designed especially for three purposes: l
I The permitting of a maximum discharge of water through the nozzle with the parts in the position shown in Figure 4i; the producing ofa spraying stream, with the nozzle in the position shown ini Figure 4, and the controlling valve suitablyadjusted; and the furnishing of a restricted fountain stream for drinkingl purposes, with the parts in the position shown inl Figure 2.
In operation, With the parts in the position shown in Figure 4, the water Will pass inlan 'unrestrained manner into and through thc nozzle andthrough the controlling: valve and out through the port opening 36 of the valve and discharge opening 24 of the nozzle. By turningthe handle 33, with' the parts in the'position shown in Figure 4, to carry the port 36 out of registering position with the discharge opening '24f and bring the port opening 37into registering positionwithjthe port 27, and opening 38 into registration with the discharge opening 24e, the, Water isA discharged through the perforated Wall 29 to constitute a cleansing stream, with a small stream passing through the discharge opening2l, for use in dishvvashing, vegetable Washing, and similar operations. `With the parts in the position shown; in Figure' 4, the full stream of Water passes from the main faucet conduit 6, through the port opening 21 into the spout. With the parts in the position shown in Figure 2, the passagel of water into the spout is restrained or reduced by being compelled to pass through the smaller annular port 22 extending around the spout in alinement with the port 21, and thusa restrained f stream passes to the spout to serve as a" drinkin@ fountain. Then the parts are in the position shown in Figure 2 to constitute a'drink- .ing fountain or nozzle, with the vrestrained stream of water passing upwardly through the discharge opening 2li, the watery rising `above the top ot the nozzlev will drop back upon the wall 29 to facilitate drinking rom the stream.

In a combined faucet and drinking fountain, a spout rotatably connected to a supply pipe and having an opening in a side thereof:l with a channeled groove extending around the periphery of the pipe at the point of said opening, an offset portion at the end of the spout having a central opening, a'chamber surrounding the central opening, having a plurality of perforation-s therein, and a hollow cylinder rotatably mounted in the spout adjacent the oitset portion, said hollow cylinder havingra pair of pertoratidns in a side thereof, one. of said openings beingl positioned to register with the central opening in the oifset portion of the spout, the other of saidfopenings being positioned to register ywith an opening in the perforated1 'chamber surrounding the central' opening, to causer a. fluid passing through the device to be discharged; through `the central opening or 'through the perforated chamber, as. desired.

The combination with a water supply pipe and a spout rotatably mounted in connection therewith, said spout being formed with a relatively large and a relatively small port adapted, in the rotation of said spout, to separately establish communication between the water supply pipe and spout; of a laterally directed nozzle carried by the outer end of said spout, said nozzle being formed with a central discharge opening and a4 surrounding discharge opening, said second discharge opening being formed with a perforated discharge end, a rotary hollow valve mounted in the end of said spout, said valve being formed with a relatively large port opening and a circumferentially spaced smaller opening, said valve being rotatable to bring said larger opening into registering position with the central discharge opening of the spout, or said smaller discharge opening into registering position with the surrounding discharge opening of the spout, with the opposed opening closed, and a screw threaded cap mounted upon the outer end of said valve and having interior threaded connection with said spout and an exterior controlling handle for said valve.
