ANTONIO LPEZ, OF WEST TAMPA, FLORIDA.
FOOT-POWER CIGAR-BINDER. CUTTER.
Application filed February To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTONIO Lornz, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vest Tampa, in the county of Hillsborough and State of Florida, have invented new and useful Improvements in Foot-Power Cigar-Binder Cutters, of which the followingis a specification.
This invention relates to a cigar binder cutter, the general object of the invention being to provide means whereby the knife can be actuated through means of a foot pedal so that both hands of the operator are free for other duties.
Another object of the invention is to so arrange the parts that they can be easily adjusted to bring the knife into engagement with another part of the base when the first part has become worn through con tact of the knife.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings .wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of the invention.
Figure 2 is a view of the front end.
Figure 3 is a view of the rear end.
Figure d is a plan view.
Figures 5, 6 and 7 are detail views.
In these views, 1 indicates the base block, which is preferably formed of wood. It is provided with a plurality of holes 2 adjacent one end and a plurality of holes 3 adjacent its other end. It is also provided with a plurality of screw receiving holes 4 adjacent its center for receiving screws which hold the ruler 5 in position. This base may be Connected with a work-bench or the like by screws which pass through the corner holes 6. A bolt 7 is adapted to be passed through any one of the holes 2 and a bolt 8 is adapted to be passed through any of the holes 8. These bolts are held in position by the upper and lower nuts 9. The bolt 7 is provided with a forked upper end and the knife bar 10 is pivoted between the prongs of the fork by the pin 11. The knife blade 12 is bolted or otherwise fas- 2, 1924. Serial No. 690,210.
tened to this bar. 3A lever 13, having a pedal 14 at its front end, is pivotally connected with the lower end of the bolt 7 and the front end of this lever is connected by the link 15 with the front end .of the knife bar 10. A spring 16 connects the pedal lever with the end of the bolt 8 and this spring tends to hold the parts in raised position. The belt 8 is provided with a rectangular head 8 which forms a guideway for the front end of the knife bar 10. Blocks 17, of rubber or the like, are placed at the ends of the guideway for absorbing the shocks due to the knife bar striking the ends of the guideway.
, From the above it will be seen that by pressing upon the pedal lt with the foot the knife will be lowered upon the base so as to out the wrapper material and then by lifting the foot the parts will return to raised position under the action of the spring. By adjusting the bolts 7 and 8 by means of the nuts wear of the knife can be compensated for and by placing the bolts in different holes in the base the knife can be brought into contact with a new part of the base when it has cut into the base through continued use, so that the knife and base can be used for a. long time. The scale serves as a guide to the operator in the measurement of the binders as they are being cut so that he can cut the wrappers to any desired length.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent. I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A cutter of the class described comprising a base, a pair of posts carried thereby, one post having a guideway therein, means permitting the posts to be adjusted vertically and laterally on the base, a knife bar pivoted to one post and passing through the guideway of the other post, a foot pedal lever pivotally connected with the base, a link connecting the lever with the knife bar and a. spring connected with the pedal lever for holding the parts with the knife in raised position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ANTONIO LOPEZ.
