RALPH L. LEE, OF DAYTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR T0 DELCO-LIGHT COMPANY, OF DAYTON, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE.
DOMESTIC APPLIANCE.
Application filed. November 15, 1923.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, RALPH L. Lm, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Dayton, county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Domestic Ap pliances, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to wringers, and more particularly to clothes wringers, and has for its object to prevent the clothes wrapping around one of the wringer rolls.
Further objects and advantages of the present invention will be apparent from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing wherein a pre ferred embodiment of one form of the present invention is clearly shown.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a view in elevation of a clothes wringer embodying the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, a U-shaped wringer frame is secured to a mounting bracket 21 in any suitable manner, and supports bearing blocks 22 and 23 for shaft 24 of lower wringer roll 25, and bearing blocks 26 and 27 for shaft 28 of upper wringer roll 29. Lower wringer roll may be operated in any suitable manner, as by power driven means or by securing a crank to shaft 24. Shaft 24 carries a gear 30 which meshes with a gear 31 carried by shaft 28 of upper wringer roll 29, whereby on operation of roll 25, roll 29 will also be operated. A leaf spring 35 is supported at its opposite ends by bearing blocks 26 and 27. A screw 36 having threaded engagement with wringer frame 20 bears upon the central portion of spring 35 and may be adjusted by the wheel 37 to vary the tension of spring 35 and thereby vary the pressure between the wringer rolls 25 and 29. A drain board 40 is pivotally mounted on the wringer frame 20 below the lower wringer roll 25 by pins 41 and 42. Drain board 40 carries at its opposite ends rollers 43 and 44 for receiving an endless conveyor belt 45 which is adapted to be propelled by contact with wringer rolls 25 and 29, passing between said rolls and be- Serial No. 675,016.
tween lower wringer roll 25 and drain board 40.
The means for preventing clothes wrapping around one of the wringer rolls comprises metal rings which encircle roll 29 and fit in spaced annular grooves 51 provided in upper wringer roll 29. The diameter of these rings 50 is greater than the outside diameter of roll 29, extending above the upper edge of roll 29, as viewed in Fig. 1 and being received by spaced slots 53 which are in alignment with the spaced grooves 51 in roller 29. The slots 53 serve as guides for rings 50 and for maintaining them in a vertical position as shown in Fig. 1. It will be apparent that when pressure is applied to the wringer rolls, rings 50 will be pinched between said rolls and are movable with the clothes passing through said rolls.
WVhen clothes are placed on the coveyor belt 45 and carried between the wringer rolls 25 and 29, for wringing, the rings 50 by their rotative movement tend to keep the clothes pushed down toward the conveyor belt 45 and overcome any tendency of the clothes to stick to the upper wringer roll 29 and wrap around said roll.
While the form of embodiment of the invention as herein disclosed, constitutes a preferred form, it is to be understood that other forms might be adopted, all coming within the scope of the claims which follow.
What is claimed is as follows:
1. In a wringer, the combination with a pair of wringer rolls for engaging articles to be wrung, and a ring encircling one of the rolls and movable with the articles for preventing the articles wrapping around said roll.
2. In a wringer, the combination with a pair of wringer rolls one of which is provided with a plurality of relatively narrowspaced annular grooves; of a plurality of relatively narrow rings each encircling the grooved roller and each received by one of the grooves, said rings being greater in di ameter than the roll encircled by them and movable wit h the articles being wrung during the operation of the wringer in order to prevent said articles wrapping around one of the rolls,
3. In a wringer, the combination with a roll received by the grooves in said roll and pair of rolls for engaging articles to be in the supporting frame and movable with wrung, one of said rolls being provided with the articles for preventing articles sticking to 10 spaced annular grooves; of a supporting he gIOOVed roll.
frame having grooves in alignment with the II1 testimony whereof I hereto affix my grooves in the grooved roll; and rings of g r greater diameter than that of the grooved RALPH L. LEE.
