ISAAC ANDREWS; O1? SATANEUEQ, SOUTH CABQHNA- Application med my a, m4. serial- No. 725,063;l
To @ZZ wim/m t may concern: l
Beit known that I, Isaac ANDREWS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Spartanburg, in the county of Spartanburg and State of South Carolina, have invented a new and useful Wire-Cutting Block for Loom Reeds, of which the following isa specification.
This invention relates to 'a device especially designed for removing the edges of Hat wire used in manufacture of loom reeds, the primary object of the invention being to provide a device of this character which will trim the edges of the wire accurately and will give the wire uniform width and straightness.
Another 'object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will operate to remo-ve predetermined thicknesses of the wire regardless of the standard of material being cut.
.A still further object of the invention is to provide means for uniformly cutting the wire should the wire in the same coil be broad and narrow due to the fact that there are hard and soft places in the wire.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing: j
Figure 1 is a plan view of a wire cutting device constructed in accordance with, the invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line 4--4- of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates the base of the device which is formed with upwardly extended supporting members 6 arranged adjacent to the ends thereof and disposed on opposite sides of a central line drawn longitudinally through the base.
The supporting members 6 support spaced plates 7, the space between the plates providing guideways for the wire under treatment, the wire being indicated by the refernce character 8 and as shownis relatively at. Y i v Bolts indicated at 9 are employed for securing the plates to the supporting member 6. Arranged adjacent to the supporting members 6 are spaced guide blocks 10 an ranged in staggered relation with each other and spaced apart to accommodate the cutting blades 11 that are formed with cutting edges .12 contacting with the wire under treatment, to remove portions thereof, when the wire is drawn through the device.
Supports 13 also extend upwardly from the base 5 and are provided with threaded openings to accommodate the bolts 14 that extend therethrough, the inner ends of the bolts contacting with the blades 11 to secure the blades in'their positions of adjustment.
The wire to be cut is fed through guides 15 arranged at the ends of the base 5, the guides including supporting plates 17 and wear plates 18, the outer edges of the wear plates 18 being bent outwardly as shownby Figure 4 of the drawing so that the wear plates will act to guide the wire in its passage through the device.
From the foregoing it willbe obvious that the wire to be cut or trimmed may bedrawn through the guide member and into engagement with the blades to the end that portions of the wire will be removed therefrom.
It will of course be obvious that due to the manner of supporting the blades 11 various thicknesses of the wire may be removed at the will of the operator and due to the fact that the cutting edges of the blades operate at points adjacent to the supporting members 6, the support-ing members will act to prevent the blade from forcing the wire laterally, should the blade contact with a hard section of the wire.
I claim 1. In a wire cutting device, a base, supporting members mounted on the base, spaced plates forming a part of the supporting members, the space between the plates defining a guideway, guide blocks arranged on the base and disposed in staggered relation with respect to .each other", cutting lblades adapted to rest between the guide blocks, a threaded bolt supported adjacent to the blade and adapted to engage the blade and vset up a binding action between the blade and guide blocks, and said guideway adapted to accommodate a strip of metal to be cut by the blade.'
2. ln a Wire cutting device.; a base, guiding members supported by the base, said guiding members including plates arranged in spaced relation With each other and haring outrvardli7 curved end portions to guide material to the guiding. members, guide blocks arranged in pairs and supported by the base, said `guide blocks having` their adjacent 'faces cnt at oblique angles? relatively long cutting blades positioned between the guide blocks and resting against the obliquely disposed faces thereof, supports disposed adjacent to each pair of guide blocks and having threaded openings threaded. bolts adapted to pass through the threaded openings to engage the blades adjacent to their cutting` ends, to hold the blades against movement 1Vith respect to the guidi-e blocks.
ln testimony that l claim the foregoing' as my own7 I have hereto affixed my signal 20 ture,
ISAAC ANDR Wr Kia
