UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE F. BARD, OF NORWICH, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMPRESSION STOPS AND WASTES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,633, dated October 6,1874; application filed June 17, 18 74.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, GEORGE F. B'ARD, of Norwich, in the county of Newv London and State of Connecticut, have invented a Compression Stop and Waste, of which the following is a specification:
The figure is a longitudinal section'of the device, in which B and C are the two induction and eduction passages; 11 and d, the two rubber-cushioned valves a, the slotted stem f, thcoutlet for Waste; a, the spindle to operate the device.
When the upper valve is closed, (and it always is when the lower one is open,) the water cannot get into the upper chamber. It therefore cannot run out of the waste, as said waste is in the upper chamber.
When the lower valve is closed, if you keep turning the spindle, the upper valve will open and let the back water into the uppefchamher and out of the waste. Both valves openand shut with the water.
screw-stein provided with wings and with a valve opening with the water, and the lower valve and the two seats, all as and for the purposes set forth.
' GEORGE F. BARD.
