This invention relates to an attachment for golf clubs known as putters, and aims to provide novel means to facilitate persons unfamiliar with the use of putters, to attain the proper swing and stance necessary for a true and accurate play.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will permit the user, in practice to properly sight the ball with respect to the club and cup.
A further important object of the invention is to provide means to insure the proper pendulum swing, necessary for accurate playing, while putting.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a front elevational viewof a putter disclosing an attachment constructed in accordance with the invention as positioned thereon.
Figure 2 is a plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the device includes a body portion 5 having a removable rear wall 6 arranged at an oblique angle with respect to the bottom of the body portion where the same supports the member 7 formedof suitable reflecting material. I
The front portion of the body 5 is closed by the lens 8 which is fitted in a suitable recessed portion formed in the front wall of the body 5 and held in position by means of the movable frame 9 which is held in position by screws 10.
Hair lines 11 are formed on the lens 8 the hair lines being arranged so that they cross each other at a oint substantially centrally of the lens 8. he 11 per wall of the body portion is formed with an opening which is closed by means of the lens 12 which is fitted in a suitable recessed portion formed adjacent to the opening and held in position by means of the movable frame 13.
This lens 12 is also provided with hair lines 14 that cross each other at a point centrally of the lens and which in use are adapted to align with the'hair lines 14 of the lens 8 that are reflected in the fnirror 7.
Suitable openings are provided in the body portion 5 and are designed to accommodate the upwardly extended fingers 15 which are secured to the upper surface of the putter in such a manner that when the 7 body portion is ositioned, the body portion will be held in irect parallel relation with the ground surface over which the putter is nlioyed, to insure a proper swinging of the c u In the use of the device, the putter is positioned in front of a ball to be played, and the club moved until the reflection in the mirror 7 of the hair lines 11, coincide with.
the reflection of the hair lines 14 of the lens 12. When the reflections of these hair lines register, the club is heldin the proper position, and if the person using the club swings the club so that the reflections from the hair lines coincide during the entire movement of the club to the rear, the swing will be accurate for a perfect shot.
I claim 1. A finder for use with golf clubs, comprising a body portion, said body portion having a lens forming its front wall, the lens having hair-lines formed thereon, a reflector disposed at an oblique angle with respect to the up r surface of the body, and a lens having air-lines, positioned in the upper surface of the body, the first mentioned lens being dis osed at a point adjacent to the striking ace of the club.
2. A- finder for use with golf clubs, comprising a bod portion; said body portion having vertica openings, upwardly extended fingers mounted on the club head and wall of the body and said body portion adapted to extend into the openings to readapted to be supported in parallel relation 1 movably support the body portion, lenses with the ground surface over which the club forming portions of the front and upper is being moved.
walls of the body portion, said lenses hav- In testimony that I claim the foregoing ing hair-lines, a reflector within the body as my own, I have hereto aflixed my slgna portion adapted to'redect the hair-lines of ture. the front lens through the lens of the upper LUTHER A. BAUGH.
