To all whom it, may concern-.f l Be it known that I, LonnN lV. Breuer, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Santa Cruz, in the county of Santa Cruz and State of California, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Drying Frames, of which the following is a speciiication.`

lt one object of the invention to provide a frame for drying curtains true to shape and that will occupywbut :L small amount of space. i

it is another object to provide a device of the character indicated that will permitthe drying of one curtain while another being arranged in position.

lt is still another object to provide a device of the character indicated that will satisfactorily dry a curtain without permitting` the same to sag.

It is also an object of the invention to provide a simple, economical, and highly efficient means for stretching the curtain on the frame, and to provide an eliicient means for securing the curtain to the frame dur ing the drying process.

In the drawing V Figure 1 is an end elevation of the device as arranged in conjunction with a dryer.

Referring more particularly to the drawing the main body portion of the frame is made up of two channel iron frames 1 1 of uniform size and placed edge to edge as clearly shown in Figure 3, in which position they are fastened together with two sheets of sheet metal 2 2 and a sheet of asbestos 3 therebetween.

At 9 9 are'two carrier strips of sheet metal bent and formed,y longitudinally as shown iin Figure 4to hold a strip of material having a wireV pileil() and mountedon travellers 11,. These travellers 11one on eachl endof `each strip 9, are mounted on threaded rods 12l supported on opposite sides of frame 1 by bearings 13, one pair nof rods being threaded in an opposite direction to the otherpair so .thatsimulta neous'rota'tion of all the' rods in `thepsaine direction will move the.` strips 9 9 at a uniform rateof speed in opposite` directions.

The rotation of rods 12 is. accomplished by a shaft 14C extending `across frame 1 ymidwayits length andcarryingbevel gears 15 meshing with the` opposing gear 16 on each pair of rods 12. 'Rotation ofshaft .la vby handle 17 will,' therefore, advance or ren tract carrier stripsl 9,. as desired.

At 18are pair` of heavier carrier `strips formed-.of channel irons havingwire pile strips 18ZL slidably mounted thereon by folded sheet metal strips 20 as shown in Figure 5. These strips are arranged longitudinally of frame 1 and at right angles to strips 9 and are mounted on rods 21 by means of travellers 22. These rods 21 are threaded in opposite directions'at opposite ends and are mounted on opposite ends of frame 1 by means of bearings 23.

It is obvious that if these two rods are rotated at the same time the strips 18 will be moved toward or away from each other. To accomplish this action, two of the aX- ially aligned rods 12 are hollow and form bearings for rods I24 provided with gears 25 on their inner ends and gears 26 on their outer ends, the gears 26 meshing with gears 27 on rods 2l.

The Shaft 14 has a .Spindle 28 the @ed thereof projecting between one set of opposing gears 16 and carrying a gear 29 adapted to mesh with opposing gears 25.

In bearing 30 for shaft 14-is a pin 31 engaging a double triangular slot 32 in shaft 14.' vWhen pinl 31 engages the outer end'of said slot the gears 15 engage gears 16 and strips Q59 are simultaneously moved in opposite directions'. lf, however, theV shaft 14 is pulled outwardly so that pin 31 engages the inner end of slot 32, the gears 15 are disengaged fromgears 16 and gear 2 8 is thrown into 'engagement'with the gears 25 so that revolving shaft' 14 will move strips 18-18 siniul'taneously'in opposite directions.

It may be seen from theforegoing that l have'provided a device that occupies but a small amount of space', is quickly reversed for replacing' the dried curtains with freshly washed and wet ones, and permits quick, accurate and positive adjustment of the stretcher elements 'to the curtain yto be dried. Furthermore, sincev the curtains are quickly dried in a vertical position they 'cannot sag and therefore 'dry true to'sha'p'e. l'

A "device yof the character indicated comprising a frame, a pair of oppositely threaded and axially aligned rods revolubly mounted adjacent to each side thereof, a traveller threaded on to'each'rod, a curtain supportingv bar mounted vupon each pair of similarly movin@ travellers, a pair of curtain supporting v ars mounted on said frame to move at right angles to said first mentioned bars, and means for simultaneously moving either pair of bars in opposite directions. j

5. A device of the character described comprising a stretcher frame, means for mounting a curtain upon each side thereof a vertically arranged heater, brackets arranged over said heater, and supporting arms pivotally connected to said frame and swingingly connected to said brackets whereby to normally suspend said frame in parallel relationto and adjacent to said heater and permit its reversal relative thereto.

6. A device of the character described comprising Va revoluble stretcher frame, means for mounting a curtain upon each side thereof, a vertically arranged heater,

and supports for said frame normally supporting said frame in parallel relation t0- and in ,close proximity'to said heater but movable relative thereto whereby to permit rotation of said frame.

7. A device of the character described comprising aV revo'luble stretcher frame, means for mounting a curtain upon each side thereof, a heat insulating partition inserted between said curtain mounting means,

a vertically positioned heater, and a support for `saidframe normally supporting t-he same in parallel relation toand in close proximity tdsaid 'heater' but movable relative 'thereto whereby to permit rotation of said frame'.
