UNITED STATES CLINTON EARL BERNARD, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
APPARATUS FO'R THERMAL SCALE TREATMENT.
Application led September 2, 1924. Serial No. 735,392.
To all 10710111y t may concern.'
Be it known that I, CLINTON E. BERNARD, a citizen of the United States, residing a Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Apparatus for Thermal Scalp Treatment, of which the following is a speciiication.
This vinvention has reference vto an apparatus for thermal scalp treatment.
An important object oic the invention is to provide a. device of this character which may be readily and easily operated by persons unfamiliar with devices ot' this character.
A further object ot the invention is to provide a device of this character which when in operation wil-l act to supply hot or coid air to the head ot the user, means being provided for maintaining the air at a predetermined temperature.
lV ith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment oi' the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spiritof the invention.
eiierring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevational view disclosing a scalp treating device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view therethrough.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view thereof, the cover being removed.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line. devilA of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the
device includes a body portion box-like in.
formation land comprising an outer section 5 and an inner section 6.
The inner section 6 is spaced from the bodysection 5, the space between the sections 5 and 6 being designed to accommodate i a suitable insulating material such as cork or the like so that the temperature Within the device will be held at an even degree while said device is in use.
A coil indicated at8 is positioned within the inner casing, the pipe 9 leading' to the coil 8 acting as the inlet pipe, while the pipe l0 at the opposite side ot the coil acts as the outlet pipe. Within the inner section is a head .piece ll which is constructed of fieXible material such as telt or the like to protect the head of the user during a treatment.
4'The lower end of the device is open so that the device may be placed on the head of the user, the :telt padding material acting to close the space between the users head and the inner casing sl that the cold air will be confined to the innerI casing.`
The cover is indicated .at 12 andvis held in its active position by means of the securing members 13 which may be moved to disengage the closure and allow the closure to be removed. f
An operating handle 14C is formed on the closure so that the closure may be readily7 and easily disengaged.
ln the use of the device, cold air from a suitable refrigerating plant is passed into the coil 8 to reduce the temperature to a predetermined degree. The cover is now removed and the device now positioned on the head ot' the user where the head of the user comes in direct contact with the cold air within the device.
lt is contemplated that a thermostat may be employed within the casing to control the iassage ot cold air from the retrigerating plant to the interior ot the device.
While I have described the device as being used by passing cold air through the coil of the device, it is to be understood that hot air may be passed through the coil if desired, for treating the head.
I claim ln a device of the character described, a body portion, said body portion having an open end, an inner section supported within the body portion, a pipe extending through the body portion, a c-o-il communicating with the pipe to receive a cooling medium, a head piece having a central opening and formed ot resilient material to permit theJ body portion to be positioned over the head ot the user, and a removable closure for normally closing the open end of the body portion.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto atiixed my signature.
CLINTGN EARL BERNARD.
