Be it known that I, GEORGE M. Davis, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis City and State of Missournhave invented new and useful Improvements in Fuse Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a fuse box, the general object of the invention being to provide means whereby a simple rotary movement of a member in the box will bring a new fuse into operative position when another fuse has been destroyed.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for rotating the member without opening the case.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the device with the cover removed.

lu these views, 1 indicates a case which is adapted to be closed by the cover 2. A partition 3 is supported by the bolts and sleeves 4 so that the case is divided into two horizontal chambers. A shaft 5 is vertically arranged in the partition for rotary movement and the lower end of said shaft carries a gear 6 which is engaged by a worm 7 on a shaft 8 which is journaled in the lower chamber and which has its cranked end 9 extending through the wall of the case 1. A disc 10, formed of insulating material, is suitably connected with the shaft 5 and is located in the upper chamber. threaded to receive a screw 12 which is designed to clamp the fuse members 13 in the holes 14, made in the posts. These fuse members 13 are each formed with a tapered head 15 which is provided with an elongated opening 16 for engaging a pin 17 carried by a post 18 supported by the partition 3 and to which one of the main conductors 19 is connected. The other conductor 20 is connected with a post 21 to which a spring member is fastened, the notched inner end 23 of which engages a ring 24 of conducting material on the disc 10 which is connected by the conducting strips 25 with the posts 11 on said discs.
From the above it will be seen that when the disc is rotated by turning the shaft 8 through means of its crank handle 9, one of the fuse members 13 will be brought to a position where the pin 17 will pass into the opening 16 and make electrical contact with the same. The current can then pass from conductor 2O through the spring strip 22 to ring 2a' on the disc and from said ring 24 through strip 25 to posts 11, the fuse 13, pin 17 to conductor 19. lVhen the fuse 13 is destroyed it is simply necessary to give the shaft 8 a partial rotation to move the disc 10 a sufiicient distance to place the next fuse 13 in engagement with the pin 17. lVhen all the fuses have been destroyed new ones can be easily and quickly put in place by loosening the clamping screws 12 and placing the stems of the new fuses in the holes 14 and then tightening the screws 12 to hold the new fuses in place in the posts 11. lVith my invention it is not necessary to open the boX to place a new fuse in position as all that is necessary is to give the shaft 8 a partial movement through the crank 9 which is located outside the box.
It is thought from the foregoing descripltion that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
