UNITED STATES ADOLPH PFEIFFER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DRAWERS.
.Application filed October 8, 1924.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be 1t known that I, ADoLrH Prnrrrnn, a
citizen of Russia, residing at Chicago, in
the county of @ook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawers, of which the rollowlng is a specification.
This invention relates to underwear, with particular reference to the lower garments or leg coverings, known generally as drawers.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a pair of drawers with means for adjusting the waist-band to conform to the person, in an easy and effectual manner.
Another purpose is to produce a pair of drawers in which the extremities or Gulf portions may be adjusted to fit with any desired closeness, and remain in such adjustment.
A further aim is in the provision of a pair of drawers, shaped in the usual manner and conformable at the points of contact with the person to produce a comfortable lit which may be adjusted as desired.
These several aims and objects are attained by the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying' drawing, forming part. hereof, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention looking from the rear.
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary View of the upper rear portion of the same.
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional View, taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a transverse sectional view of one of the legs at the lower end thereof.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary sectional view, taken on line 5-5 of Figure 4.
Referring more in detail to the drawing, the main portion of the drawers is designated by the numeral 10, and from this depend the legs 11, having flexible ends 12.
Sewn to the inner side of each leg termial or cuff 12, are bands 13, forming a circuitous space 14 in which is contained a cord or tape 15, one end 16 of which is secured permanently to the material of the drawer leg and thence passed through the space 14 Serial No 742,280.
to an opening 17 in the material, adjacent the secured end.
The extending portion 18 of the cord or band is formed with a loop 19 adapted to engage a button 20 sewn on the leg over the band 13 not far from the opening 17.
Thus as the cord is drawn taut, the leg of the garment, at the cuff portion, will become contracted in diameter, to any desired extent, causing the cuif portion 12 to fit in a neat and comfortable manner, as will be obvious.
At the ripper end of the garment is a relatively broad waist band 21 sewn at its upper and lower edges, which may be fancifully shaped, this band and the garment being provided with the usual flies 22, carrying buttons or like fastening means at the front, and at the rear is a wedge-shaped slit 23, separating the band into two substantially equal portions.
A cord or tape 24 is firmly secured to the band and garment on one side, as at 25, extended transversely across the slit 23 and passed through the lower of two eyes formed in a plate 26 secured to the other side of the garment by stitches 27.
The cord is continued through the other plate eye and extended backward, parallel with the lower portion, past the secured end 25, to be formed into several loops 28, any of which may engage a button 29 fixed on the band and garment material, in alignment ,with the upper strand of the cord, as shown.
Disposed over the cord or tape 24 is a partial cover 30, sewn at its edges, as best seen in Figures 1 and 3,v forming a pocket through which the looped portion 28 of the cord extends. v
In operation, the loops 28 are adjusted to engage the but-ton 29 to give the desired degree of tightness to the band 21 and thus the garment is held comfortably to the person, upon buttoning the Hies in the usual manner.
Having thus described my invention and set forth the manner of its construction and application, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A pair of drawers having a sectional waist band and containing a wedge-shaped 11 slit at the rear, a cord permanently iixod ing a plurality of loops at its free end, a to said hand and garment on one side of the button iXed on said garment to engage any 10 slit, a plate having two eyes spaced in verof the loops, and textile covering over said tical relation lixed on the opposite side of oord and eyes, through which the looped the garment, said oord extending in a level portion of the oord extends. run through the lower eye and then through In Witness whereof I have affixed my sig the upper eye to reach across :the slit above nature. and parallel With the first laid run and hav- ADOLPH PFEIFFER.
