UNITED STATES PATENT OSCAR LENDING, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
COMBINED HAND BAG AND CAMERA.
Application filed November 10, 1924.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Osonn LENDING, a citizen of Poland, and resident of the borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, city and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Combined Hand Bags and Cameras, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to ladies hand bags arranged as a vanity case to carry toilet articles and the like, and it is the object of the invention to arrange said bags as a combined hand bag and camera carrier, and to provide a bag of this characterwherein access may be had to the toilet or other articles while maintaining the camera enclosed, or the camera may be exposed for the purpose of taking pictures while the article carrier is maintained closed.
In the drawing accompanying and forming a part of this specification I have illustrated an embodiment of the invention wherein Figure l is a perspective view of the combined hand bag and camera carrier showing the same in closed condition and looking at one end and side thereof.
Figure 2 is a perspective view, looking at the inside thereof, of an enclosing and carrier back or fold for the bag.
Figure 3 is a perspective view looking at one end and two sides of the enclosing fold or back adjusted to expose the camera for the purpose of taking a picture while maintaining the article carrier of the bag closed.
Figure 4: is a view similar to Figure 3, but showing the enclosing fold or back adjusted to expose the article carrier for the purpose of getting access to articles in said carrier; and
Figure 5 is a detail sectional View of the camera and article carrier and showing means for releasably connecting the camera to the article carrier.
Similar characters of reference designate like parts throughout the different views of the drawing.
In carrying out the embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing there is provided an elongated body or back, shown in a general way at 6, preferably of one piece and of suitable material, such as leather or fabric, which may have a lining or facing applied to the inner surface as viewed in Figure 2, and adapted to be folded as at 7, 8, 9 and 10, the one end portion being slitted longitudinally and substantially mid- Serial No. 749,079.
way between the side edges, as at 11, to ad jacent the fold or crease 9 to arrange said end of the back with a pair of parallel flaps 12 and 18. The opposite end of the back is arranged as a main flap l t having a portion at the extremity cut away, as at 15, said end of the back is also arranged with an auxiliary flap 16 stitched at one end to the inner surface of the back adjacent the fold 8, said flap being of a length to extend beyond the cutaway portion of the main flap 14:, as clearly shown in Figure 2 for a purpose to be hereinafter described.
A casing 17 in the form of a receptacle open at the end or top is secured at the bottom by an adhesive or otherwise to the in termediate portion of the back with one side [lush with a side marginal portion of the back, said casing being of a length to em tend between the folds or creases 8, 9 and of a width substantially of the flap 13 which flap is adapted to serve as a cover for the opening of the casing. The casing is of a height substantially of the area between the folds or creases 7, 8, and 9, 10. The receptacle 17 is adapted to serve as a vanity case to carry toilet articles, and also to carry a purse, handkerchief or the like. The flap 13 may carry a mirror )8 on the inner surface thereof.
As stated, it is an object of the invention to provide a combined hand bag and camera carrier. For this purpose there is provided a camera of conventional form and indicated in a general way at 19, the same being substantially of the same conformation and size as the casing 17 to be enclosed and carried within the flap portions 12, 16. The camera may be permanently adapted to the intermediate portion of the back or fold between the creases 8, 9, but it is preferably releasably mounted in the bag for which purpose it has a snap fastener connection with the casing 17, as shown at 20, Figure 5, one member of the snap fastener being carried by the camera and the other by the casing 17. By this arrangement the camera may be released from the casing 17, as shown in dotted lines in Figure 3, for the purpose of facilitating the inserting and removing of a film from the camera. As is obvious the flaps may be folded around and enclose the casing and camera and are releasably secured in closed position by snap fasteners, one member of which is secured to the flaps 12, 13, as shown at 21, 22 while iii the other members are secured to the flaps 14;, 16, as shown at 23, 24;.
To enclose the casing and camera in the fold or back the .tlaps 12, '13 are engaged about the casing and camera, the flap 13 serving as a closure for the opening in the casing, when the laps 1e, 16 are folded over the flaps 12, 13 and secured in such position by the snap fasteners. Should it e desired to get acces to the casing 17 the ziaiu llap is? is released from the tiap 1?; said may he adjusted to the posiindicated in l igure and without exthe camera enclosed by the [laps 12, vi latter tiaps being retained in enp sition. tihould it he desired to get to the camera or the purpose of e:-:-
and tinder 243 for the Jug; picture the auxiliary '5 Pleased :lroni the tiap 12 and the a ljusted to the position indicated in e -3 without releasing the flaps l t, 13, eing readily accon'iplishcd due to the cutting away of the portion of the flap 1d at To facilitate the carrying of the device it is arranged with a hand grip upon the exterior of the bag, said grin comprising a strap 2? connected at opposite ends to rings 28 n'iorahly attached to the bag, as at 29. liy the releasable mounting of the camera it wi l he obvious that another article such as other casing 11'', may be substituted thereand enclosed within the told or back.
Having thus descrilied my invention I claim l. in a hand bag, a hack arranged with cooperating closure flaps at opposite ends, a pair of sidewise arranged casings intermediate the tlap portions of the back and orer which the flap portions are adapted to be closed, and said (laps adapted to he re lr-a: d independently of each other whereby cross may be had to either of the casings.
2. in a hand bag, a hack having parallelly arranged flaps at one end and the oppositeend arranged with a main [lap and an auxiliary flap, and said flaps arranged with releasable securing means, and a pair at side-wise arranged casings intermediate the liaps ot the hack, one of which casings is fixed to the back and the other casing releasahly connected to said fixed casing, and over which casings the flaps are adapted to he closed.
53. In a hand hag, an open end article carrying receptacle a camera juxtaposed to said receptacle and means to he tolded around and enclose said receptacle and camera arranged with imlependenth releasable closure means whereby access may he had to the receptacle and the camera enclosed by said means or the camera exposed for the purpose of taking a picture while maintaining the receptacle closed.
4-. In a hand bag an open end receptacle, a camera arranged in sidewise relation to said receptacle a told to be folded around said receptacle and camera, one end of the told being slitted longitudinally to provide parallel tlap portions and the opposite end arran red as a main flap and an auxiliary flap to be folded over the parallel flaps and idependently and releasably secured thereto, said n'iain flap being adapted to be releasable to access to therece itaele and the auxiliary flap released independently of the main flap for exposing of the lens ot the camera tor taking a picture, and a hand grip connected to the outer side ot the fold.
in a hand bag, a back arranged with a pair ot flaps at opposite ends and an inlermediate section, juxtaposed articles carried by the interu'iediate section of the hack and over which the flaps are adapted to be folded to serve as closures therefor, and means to releasalfly retain said flap portions in closed condition and adapted to be separately released.
Signed at New York city in the county of New York and State of New York, this Z l-th day oi October, 1924.
