new and useful Improvements in Scaffold- Rope Clamps, of which the following is a specification. I I V This invention relates to a clamp for scaffold ropes, that is used to bind. together the various reaches of a scaffold supporting rope, thereby locking therope against movement.
The invention has for an object to provide a novel and simple device of this sort that can be readily applied to the rope and which will not be liable todamage the latter. i
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawthe various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

As here embodied my improved clamp comprises a rectangular frame 10 through one end of which a clamping screw 11 is threaded. The inner end of this clamping screw has a swivel engagement, as indicated at 12 with a clamping crosshead 13 that is provided on its ends with T-shaped grooves 14 that engage over the sides of the frames 10. The outer end of the clamping screw has a disk handle 16 fixed thereto for purposes of rotation.
At their adjacent sides the crosshead 13 and the end member 10 of the frame that is remote from the screw are suitably curved as shown at 18 and 19 respectively to grip the rope. Pivoted as at 29 in recesses 30 in the crosshead 13 are the jaws 22 that are normally urged awayfrom one another by the tension springs 25 attached at their ends to upward projections from the jaws, the latter dependi g w ward to engage the mg, and to the appended claims in which rope. These jaws'have, their remote side's cammedor inclined as at v22 to form cams that are engaged by rollers 31 on the sides .of the frame 10 when thecrosshead13 is screwed inward, the jaws being thus compressed against the sides of the rope, The end member 10 of the frame "is preferably made removableto permit'ofinsertion of the rope' therein, bei1ig here shown as formed with'bifurcated ends that straddle ,the diminished ends of the, side members :of the frame and are securedglfthereto screws 26. In the form of the invention shown in Figs. 3 to 5 the crosshead 13 is formed at its ends with tongues 14 that project into guide grooves15 in the sides of the frame 10. Instead of the jaws 22 I provide a pair ofarms or jaws 22' that are pivoted at one end as at 20 in recesses 21 in the said end member 10 and are adapted to project rearwardly, on opposite sides of the rope. to clamp thereagainst. The free or rear ends of these arms project into apertures 23 in the crosshead 13, these apertures presenting cam walls 24 that bear on the ends of the levers and act to compress the same toward one another when the crosshead is moved forwardly by rotating the screw 11. The arms 22 are normally urged away from one another by the tension spring 25.
In this construction the inner portions of the spaces between. the forked ends of the end member 10" form the recesses 21 above referred to that receive the lever arms 22.
My improved clamp acts to firmly grip the rope. without tendency to distort or in jure the latter by squeezing it into flat shape. as will be apparent from the disposition of parts above described and illustrated in the drawing. When the screw 11 is rotated to move the clamping crosshead 13 forward, the jaw or lever arms 22 are also moved toward one another by reason of the walls 24 ing levers pivoted in said frame, and: means providing an operative connection between said crosshead and said levers whereby clamping movement of the crosshearl in1 parts similar movement to the said levers,
and a screw threaded through the frame and bearing on the said crosshead.
2. A scaffold rope clamp comprising a rectangular frame, a clamping crosshead .slid able in said frame and formed with apertures adjacent its ends, a. pair of lever arms pivoted at one end to said frame and presenting inclined free'ends engaging in said apertures whereby said lever arms are moved toward one another when the said crosshead is moved forward.
3. A scaffold rope clamp comprising a rectangular frame, a clamping crosshead slidable in said frame and formed with apertures adjacent its ends, a pair of lever arms pivoted at one end to said frame and presenting inclined free ends engaging in said apertures whereby said lever arms are moved toward one another when the said crosshead is moved forward, the apertures in said crosshead presenting cam walls adapted. to bear on the end of the leverarms.
4. A scaffoldrope clamp comprising a rectangular frame, a clamping crosshead slidable in said frame and formed with aperturesadjacent its ends, a pair of lever arms pivoted at one end to said frame and presenting inclined free ends engaging in said apertures whereby said lever arms are moved toward one another when the said crosshead is moved forward, and a screw threaded through said frame and bearing on said crosshead.
