GUSTAVU-S A. PRIDE, ors rRINerInLn, xnnmorsf APrLIcA'ron ron, THE LOCAL APPLICATION or stirPcisrroams.

ToaZZwhomz'tmay concern.'
Be it known that I, GUs'rAvUs A. PRIDE, a citizenof theUnited States, residing at 403 4 West Monroe Street, in the city of Springfield, county of Sangamon, and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful device known as an Applicator for the Local Application of Suppositories, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a type of instrumentthat is adapted to be usedfor locally applying suppositories and the like.
One of the purposes of this invention is to provide an instrument which in its structure not only provides a capsule container for a suppository but also provides in the structure of that container a shouldered cap for the container in integral combination with. a tubular sleeve on'the rearward end thereof adapted to slidably engage and accommodate a cylindrical handleto be used in: the local application of the suppository into therrectum or other organ of patients needing such'medicine.
A further object of my. invention is to provide a device for the purpose mentioned that willbe easy to operate and of the proper design to be easy and comfortable in its application and especially to have in its structure means for accommodating a handle of predetermined length that will make it possible to more successfully insert a suppository to an extent within the place of local application within the limits of the length of the handle.
A further object of my invention is to provide an applicator for suppositories of the character described that will be simple in construction and economical to manufacture in addition to the unusual comfort secured in using the same.
I attain the objects of my invention above mentioned by the elements of its design which are described in the annexed specifications, recited in the claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which like reference numerals indicate the same structural parts in the figures.
Referring to the several figures:
Fig. 1 is a side view of the capsule of my invention shown in its assembled form without the handle. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the two telescopically fitting sections of the capsule shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the same two sections shown in their telescopically engaged relations. This figure also shows how handle .thatis to benorrnally used with this capsule modation of the same. Fig. 4 is a side. view ts; into the sleeve for; the accomof the completely assembled' applicators of my invention."
,Referring nowto the severalelements of my invention shown inthe respective figures which elements aredesignated by'numerals, I shall attempt to point out the relation of the several parts in, theirco-opera- 1:
of the aptive function in. the normaluse plicator. Ishall now point out the function of each detailed part and its relationto the whole structure of in normal use.
the invention r when In the ordlnary practices. 1n using suppositories it has been found that in order to get the best results such suppository ought to be inserted to some extent within the rectum or other organ andit has been foundar:
very inconvenient and unsatisfactory to attempt to apply such" suppositories without some comfortable and eflicient means of makmg sufliciently deep insertion thereof. Such practices have also been observed to be un-r:
sanitary as well as unsatisfactory. In designing a devlce of this character it is essential to have a capsuleof such form, as a container for the suppository that: its outline Wlll make it possible to effect an easy and painless insertion of the same as well as to make it possible to retain the same in the place where it is inserted and these objects of my invention are obtained in the applicator of my invention, illustrated in the drawings in which numeral -1 illustrates the front container section of the capsule of my invention. This container section is adapted to be filled with a suppositorysolution which fills cavity 4. therein. After filling the container section of the capsule, cap 2 is telescopically fitted over the open end of said container section and allows the open end of the container section to occupy the interior of the cap -5-. When the capsule is loaded and ready for use handle 8 is inserted into a tubular sleeve of the cap which is an integral part thereof. A wall -6- serves as a dividing wall or a cover means for covering the container section of the capsule. When it is desired to use the applicator the front container section which is pointed and has the general form of a paraboloid is inserted into the rectum makins t Possible a mate a reas n sertion, the instrument isfsloivl'y andj car'efully inserted to apredetermin'e'd extent by pushing on the knob 9 of handle" =8'- After the insertion is ma de said handle is 5 Withdrawn from the sleeve 7 of the cap leaving "the cap'sul'eiWithin to dissolve; It Will be noted that shoulder 10 serves as an effective means"of'ftaining-said capsule While the handle is being with- 10 drawn, Q Ha ing 'thusue'scriloed the nature of "my invention what Ifclaim as s ew -and, useful and desire to secure by Iitters 'Patent is 1; applicator for the loat'a'pplication of suppositories having inc'o 'oper'ative combination Marisa-Is and 1a: "handle for the eapsule, "said A capsule provided with Tan anterior ""coiltaiflerf section pariaboloidal form am a {posterior section l comprisin a agrams-mismanalarger sleeve -at' one end and a"smaller sleeve 'lat'the' other end and said sleeveseparated i by an "integr'a1 "Wa1l;"'sai'd larger "sleeve adapted to provide telescopically engageable cap means for said anterior container section andsaid smaller sleevefada pted to slidably' accom- "modate said appucater hanule; ana 'an ia- "tegrahshoulder in said'cap section formed ;by the difi'erenee in the o'utsidejdianieters hetvvee'n "said integral sleeves, shoulder "a'daptedtoprovide stop means for retain- "pg 'sa'id "capsule f'vv'ithin the placefof' local {application ;Whil e removing said "applicator handle "therefrom, s U 21111 an 'ap'[')lica toi-' of the? character described comprisihgfa gelatine capsule. having a telescopically engagable front Icon- "tainr sectiea and i a rear cap" sectio fanda "slidalole detachable handle for the same, the
