other lever may be engaged in prying the slide 19 loose from its engagement with the jamb A.
In Figure 8 it will be seen that the slide 19 is formed at its rear end'at the top with the tongue 119. Said tongue 119 is received in a longitudinal cut-out 112 in 4the spacing element 12. Theend of the tongue 119 is chamfered as at 219 for the purpose of preventing the grain that enters the cutout 112 from jamming the tongue 119. `With the above described construction the auxiliary door is emplaced by engaging the projecting member 17 at one end behind the adjacent jamb A. The auxiliary door is then brought into the plane of the doorway and the slide 19 is moved outwardly suiificient to enter the projecting end formed by the strap 21 at the back of the opposite amb A, whereupon thetail nuts 114 are tightened up to hold the auxiliary door in position with both ends engaged with the jambs. To remove the auxiliary door the tail nuts 114 or equivalent nuts areturned back suliiciently to release the slide19 and permit movement of said slide in the space 18 toward the element 12- A suitable lever such as any convenient stick or bar is now placed against projection 26 and pressure exerted against the adjacent jamb A to disengage the strap 21 from Vsaid jamb whereby the pressure of the grain within the car will press the release end of the auxiliary door outwardly, permitting said door to be readi-.
ly removed. It is to be understood that the main car door (not shown) yis emplaced at the proper time and in the proper manner in the loading of the car and nailed in position as is customary.
I would state in conclusion that while the illustrated lexample constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated, since7 manifestly, the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the inventionV as defined in the appended claims.
.Having thus )described my invention, I claim: Y
`1. An auxiliary grain car door adapted to be positioned beneath the main door of a.
of the auxiliary door, said body at one end and said slide at the opposite end of the door liaving'members to engage the door frame at the'inner side; together with a tongue on said slide at the inner end at the top of the slide,.the body of thedoor having a cut-out in whichsaid tongue is movable, said tongue kof the door having members to engage the door frame at the inner side, one of said elementsof the body and the opposed surface of the slide presenting respectively a longitudinal riband a groove receiving the rib preventing vertical displacement of' the locking slide.
3. Any auxiliary grain car door adapted to be positioned beneath the main door of a car, said auxiliary door including a'bodyVV having frontand back elementspresenting at one end a space therebetween, and a locking slide movable longitudinally of the body in said space to vary the total effective length of the auxiliary door, said body at one end and said slide at theopposite end of the door having members to engage the door frame attheinner side; together with transverse bolts passing through saidspaced body members, and said slide and nuts on the bolts adapted to be tightenedup to bind said spaced body elementsl against the locking slideto hold the latter in adjusted position.
4. An auxiliary grain car door adapted to be positioned beneath the main door and including a body and a locking slide movable longitudinally of the bodyto vary the total effective length of the auxiliary door, said body at one end being rabbeted to present a projecting member adapted to engage the car door frame vat the inner side, and a strap on the end of said slide and flattened at its outer end to present essentially a rabbeted formation, said strap adapted to engage a side of the door frame at the inner side.
5. An auxiliary grain car door adapted to be positioned beneath the main door and including a body and a lockingslide movable longitudinally of the body to vary thetotal effective length of the auxiliary doorsaid body at one endV being rabbeted to present a projecting member adapted to engage the car'door rframeat the inner side, and a strap on the end of'said slide and flattened at its outer end to present essentially a rabbeted formation, said* strap adapted to engage a.
side of therdoor frame at the inner side; together with a projecting member on the front face of said strap adapted to be engaged by a pry for disengaging the strap from lthe door frame. y
