*,Vith yregard 4to .lightingv yfixtures it is a 15 well-appreciated tact ,that it has `beencusto. provide an outlet box and the tocouple thefixture tothe same. Also it has .been necessaryfto resort `to disconnecting, resoldering" and insulating' the lead wires each' utime aitixture has been removed or applied. .These operations have necessarily involved the services of a Yskilled mechanic, 4aside h.from the tact that article of this character has not at alltimes been available to theextent desiredQand, withthis yin view .I have conceived of a lighting iixture, whichmay be applied or removed vby aninexperienced personfwithout-.the necessity of opening the feedcircuit.
A `'xurtl'ier object ,ot my invention is to providea deviceof this naturelwhic'h shall be' eirtremely simple `in "construction `and shall presentcertain improvedelementsper- ,mittingof the accomplishment ot the fpurpose set forth inthe preceding paragraph. AFurther objects of myinveution willappeark in the "annexed ""specitication ,and drawingspwhich latter presentone practical embodiment of t-he same, and in lwhich l Figure 1 isan enlarged cross sectional view of the connection preferably utilized in association with the fixture.
Figures 2 and 3 illustrate details of the same.
Figure 4t is a partly sectional side view of a fixture constructed in accordance with my invention, and
Figure 5 is a bottom plan View ot one of the details of the connection.
Having in mind, the essence of my invention, as set forth in the preamble of this specification, I conveniently utilize as a permanent part of a fixture. one portion of detachable connection, this portion being 4lucley associatedwith the box and serving' positioned adjacent the point of connection normallyofccupied by fthe hi'clrey.
` Thus, reference being had to"Fig Lire 4, it will be seen that the referencelnuimeral 10 indicates any 4desired 'type'of iXtur'efwhich includes, fin vthe `embedirnei'it illustrated plug v11, secured, adjacent' its" upper end,
Awhich plug is `capable of ready association with :a socket, whereby to vprovide ineanfs'." establishinga detachable supporting'element,
and electrical connection.
`Althoug h', as afore'stated, ,any type of detachable connectionmay be utilized', ifo-r the `purpose specified I preiferablyp'employ'a plug more particularly"`of the character illust-rated in Figure 1'.; In,tliifview'iitw'ill e noted that the lead wires Yofa thefx'tujre `10,eritehiicl lin the usualinanner beyoidl'the upper end of `the same, l centrary Ato 'the convention al construction, a 1metvallicl plug 13 is secured tothe upper end of t-lieuliiiture f10, and' forms a `ccnti'nuation ,'o'ffth'is ele ment. These t-wofrnernbers are secured with respect tol each other ,any suitable p'niea'ns such yas attending the lower end of'. the

It will thus be noted, assuming that one of the feed leads 24 connects with the socket 29, the second lead contacting with the terminal 22, that current Will be causedto flow through the leads l2, and With a view of accomplishing this I may preferably recess the body of the plug 25 to provide a communication space for metallic arms 31, furnishing terminals 32 suitable for securing the ends of the leads 24 thereto.
It Will also be noted that one of the arms 3l extends to a point at which the terminal 22 vWill contact With the same When the plug is properly7 applied to the socket, and the second arm contacts with the body of the socket 29, thus providing the circuit desired.
From the foregoing it will be appreciated that I have provided a lighting fixture Which preferably utilizes a detachable connection of the nature described, but not necessarily limited to this form of connection,
and by means of which any unskilled person may quickly eHect attachment of any desired fixture to any outlet box, and by means of which the fixture will be properly supported and electrical connection will have been established. y
' Obviously numerous modifications of structure might readily be resorted to Without in the least departing from the spirit of my invention, Which I claim as:
l. An electrical connecting device comprising a substantially solid metallic block having a threaded plug portion for electrical and mechanical. connection with a cooperating socket, said body having an integral flange, and means for permanently connecting said'flange to an elect-ric fixture.
2. A device recited in claim l, the body having a longitudinal passage therethrough and a recess at its free end, an element of insulating material lodged in saidrecess and free end of the body, and .a center contact mounted on said element.
4L. A device recited in claim l, the body having a relatively narrow longitudinal passage therethrough, and a lead ivire binding post mounted on said body on a face of said passage, said binding post being accessible from the free end of the said body.
5. An electrical connecting device comprising a substantially solid metallic block having an interiorly threaded recess capable of receiving the conventional threaded lamp base, said block having an integral flange., an insulating body adjacent the flanged end of said block, a support member adjacent said body, and mea-ns for mechanically connecting said block, insulating 'body and support member intoa unitary structure, said means comprising an element frictionally enga-ging said flange.
6. A device affording electrical connection and mechanical support for a heavy electric fixture comprising a substantially solid metallic block having an interiorly threaded recess capable of receiving a conventional threaded lamp base, an insulation body, a. support member adapted to be connected to an outlet box adjacent said body, a flange integral with said block, an insulating sleeve surrounding said block, and means for mechanically connectingv said block, body and support member into a unitary structure, said means comprising a metallic sleeve enclosing said block and frictionally engaging said flange.
7. An electrical connecting and supporting device comprising a support member, an insulating element adjacent said support member, a metallic block Contact member adjacent the insulating element provided with a threaded recess and means for holding the lsupport member, insulating element and block in al unitary structure comprising a member frictionally engaging the outside of the block, in combination With a metallic block contact provided with exterior threads cooperating with said threaded recess, said block having a central passageway.
