Be it known that' we, PAUL ZARs and SvnNn DYHR, citizens ot Germany and Denmark, respectively, residing at Dusseldorf- Gratenberfr, Germany, and Berlin-Charlottenburg, ermany, respectively, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Switching Devices for Electric Circuits, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates in general to switching devices and more particularlytow devices ot' this 'kind which intermittently open or close an electric circuit or circuits in quick succession. l
In mechanical devices of this kind the rapid blows of the circuit-closing members or contacts on each other give rise to dis-y turbing noises, and the springs used hitherto tor damping the blows and reducing the concussion produce undesirable secondary vibrations ot the contacts. i
It is an object ot this invention to remove these drawbacks. This is accomplished by positively moving or guiding the cooperating contacts relatively to each other.
In the drawings affixed to this specification and forming part thereof our invention is illustrated diagrammatically by way ot example. In the drawings- Fig. l shows an oscillating make-andbreak switch whose contact-making members are `moved by cams or eccentrics driven by ashaft,

Instead of operating the contacts 71"Z and 7c by control gear thatv is completely positive in action, the arrangement could be such that. the contacts ZL, z' and are coupled to the rods r and s only in certain positions of their travel.
The contact supports c, f and g may be made rigid instead of resilient and joined to the brackets b, c and Z by hinges.
Instead "of making the members Z, m and a resilientthat connect the contacts ZL, a' and c to the eccentrics t and u, spring niembers may be inserted in the rods c and The contacts ZL and 7c need not be driven by a common eccentric t, but in accordance with another feature of the invention a separate eccentric or the like may be used tor each contact.
Another 'feature oiE the invention consists in making the contacts ot the device of bodies consisting oi copper wire (such as the gauze used for dynamo brushes) -for the purpose of reducingnoises causedby the contacts striking against each other.
A device with an oscillating cushioned contact arranged between twolateial lcontacts is shown in Fig. 2. The middle contact comprises the support il, a soft intermediate piece i2 consisting, say, ot copper gauze, and the two contact caps 3 and 4. One of the two counter contacts comprises a support al, the soft intermediate body 7a2 and the cap h3, while the other counter contact comprises the support icl, the soft intermediate piece k2 and the cap 7c3. Thus in this device the gauze bodies h2, z, and 792 do not make and break the .contacts themselves, but only act as conducting, sound-damping or mailing members associated with the contact-making parts 7a3, 713, c', and 7c3.
In Fig. 3 79 is a contact support and 7c, a contact of copper gauze that makes and breaks contact itself.
The bodies of copper gauze may, oi course, be replaced by bodies consisting of small bundles of wire or the like.

A switching device for electric circuits comprising, a plurality of cooperating contacts, a vprimary cam 'for postively actuating some of the said contacts, a secondary cam for positively actuating another of the said contacts, and resilient connecting members between the said cams and the said contacts.

A switching device for electric circuits comprising, a plurality of cooperating contacts, a'primary positively-operating driving means for actuating one of the said contacts, a secondary positively-operating driving means for actuating another of the said contacts, and means for regulating the intei-vals of closure of .the cooperating contacts. n

A switching device for electric circuits comprising, a plurality of cooperating contacts, a plurality of separate driving means, one foreach said contact, and means for regulating the intervals orf .closure of the cooperating contacts` 4. A switching device for electric circuits comprising, a plurality of cooperating contacts, a primary cam for positively actuating some of the said contacts, a secondary cam for positively actuating another of the said contacts, and means for regulating the intervals or closure of the cooperating' contacts.
5. A switching device for electric circuits comprising, a plurality oit cooperating contacts, a primary positively-operating driving means for actuating one of the said contacts,
a secondary positively-,operating driving means for actuating another .of the said cont s, resilient connecting members between tie said Vdriving means and the said contests, and f0.1" ,regulating the intervals of closure of the cooperating contacts.
6. A switching device for electric circuits comprising, a plurality of cooperating contacts, a primary cam for positively actuating some of the Sold contacts, a secondary cam 7. A switching device 4for 4electric circuits comprising, a plurali-ty of cooperating contacts, cams, motion-transmitting members adapted to be actuated by the said cams, and
coupling members J01' coupling the contacts to the motion-transmitting members, the positions oi the coupling members being adjustable relatively to each other, whereby the intervals of closure of Vthe `said cooperating contacts may be regulated.

A switching device for electric circuits comprising, .a plurality of cooperating sound-deadening contacts, a primary positively-operating driving means for actuating `one of 1the said contacts, a secondary positively-operating driving means lfor actuating another .of the .said contacts, and resilient connecting members between the said driving meansand the said contacts.

A switching device for electric circuits comprising, a pluralitytof cooperating sounddeadening contacts, a .primary cam for positively actuating some of the said contacts, a secondary cam for positively actuating an other of the said contacts, and resilient con necting members between the said cams and the said contacts.

A switching device for electric circuits comprising, a plurality of cooperating contacts, a primary positively-operating driving means for actuating one of the said contacts, anda secondary positively-operating driving means for actuating another of 10 the said contacts, the said contacts comprising, sound-deadening members of divided yielding metal, and solid contact-making caps.
