This invention relates to electric heaters or toasters and particularly 'to improve ments in the toasters shown in theUnited.
States application of Alice Lee Mottlau, 'filed September 29, 1920, Serial No. 413,-
515 for duplex toasters, and the United States appliczltion of August J. Mottlau, filed February 17, 1922. Serial No. 537,289, for electric cookers and toasters; though it is noted that the invention is not limited to toasters, nor in some respects evento electrical devices. I
One object of the invention is to provide, in an apparatus or device of this kind, easily and conveniently removable and replaceable heating unit supports.
Other objects of the invention are to provide, in an apparatus or device of this kind, efiicient arrangements of mounting and connecting the heating unit supports.
f Other objects of the invention are to improve generally the simplicity and efficiency of such devices and to provide a device or apparatus of this kind which is durable. economical to manufacture and operate and which will not get out of order.
For the accomplishment of these and other objects my inventions are. embodied in an improved toast stated,comprises a base which has oppositely mounted standards thereon, each standard carryinga heating unit mounting consisting of an insulating support provided with a plug receiving end and an enlarged outer end. A conductor connecting block received in said enlarged end carries on its inner side contact springs; and a contact plug inserted into said plug receiving end.
Other objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds; and while herein details of the invention are described, the invention is not limited to these, since many and various changes'may be made without departing from the'scope ofthe invention as claimed. p
In the accompanying drawing, showing or heater which, briefly;
by way of example one of many possible embodiments of the invention, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my electric heater or toaster, showing one half in axial section;
Fig. 2 is an 'axial vertical sectional view of the mounting, showing the heating unit core in elevation; Fig. 3 is an outer end view ofthe mounting;
Fig. 4 is an inner end view of ing with parts removed; Fig. 5 is a front view of the block, showing the contact springs;
Fig. 6 is a sectional view taken on line 6-6 of Fig. 5; and

Referring to the drawings, Fig. 1 my toaster is shown as comprising a disk base 10 having an outwardly and downwardly. extending flange ll'forming a space 12 under said base, and provided with passages 13 therethrough at opposite points. Legsi15 attached to the under side of base 10 support it in horizontal position. Outwardly and upwardly extending hollow standards 16 are oppositely mounted on the flange 11 and communicate with space 12, one of said standards having a conductor opening 17.
The upper inner wall of each standard is provided with a large support opening 20, and the outer wall with a perforation 21 opposite the lower part of the support opening 20.
An insulating heat unit support 25 is received in the opening 20, comprising an upper inwardly pointing socket 26 having interior oppositely positioned arcuate retaining lugs 27 at its inner end providing arcuate passageways 30 therebetween, and also having an interiorly enlarged outer end 32 provided at the lower part with a position ing seat 33 communicating therewith. One of lugs 27 has an interiorly projecting stop portion 31. Support 25' has at its lower portion a countersunk opening 35 registering with said perforation 21, and vertical parallel channels 36 on its outer face. A handle 38 having an internally threaded recess 39 in its inner end is attached to the outer side of said standard by means of a screw 37 passing through the base opening 35, outer wall perforation 2 1, and into said threaded 'ass Iii} to securclv hold support 25, stand- 13 and handle 3b in assembled posiport if; is an insuiating comluclor connection block it). An insulating contact plug 70 having horizontal slots 71 therethrough, has on its inner end laterally extending arcua'te locking lugs 72, which are adapted to be in sorted through said passages 30 and rotated behind said retaining lugs 27 to form a spring pressure contact with the springs 50. Core su 'iporting conductor arms 80 are passed through the slots 71 and have their inner ends SI-bent at right angles away from each other bearing against springs 50,
Plug 70 is provided on its inner face with recesses to permit insertion o" a bending tool (not shown) to form contact ends 81. The outer pontions 82 of arms are offset away from each other and terminate in a cross portion 83, between which cross portions 83 there is mounted a tubular refractory insulating core having a spiral groove 91 covering its outersurface, and having cross grooves 92 on its ends adapted to receive the arms terminating cross portions 83. Disposed in the groove 91 there is wound an electric heating coil 95, having its ends secured to said crosses 88 of the arms 80.
What I claim is:
1. In a support for a heating unit, in combination. a supporting member having at one end an opening and at its opposite end an enlarged opening communicating with the first opening, opposed retaining means at the outer edge of the first opening having passages therebetween, an insulating conductor connection block located in said enlarged openin opoosed contact members secured to said Eloclc and underlying said opposed retaining means, means for connecting said contact members to a source of electricity, an insulating contact plug 1??? ceivcd in the bet een the retaining means and extem. into opening and prwnidcd with means v able with said mtaining means by iartial rotation oi? the dug for retaining the plug in the first opening and having passages through the plug, and electrically conduc tive supporting" means for a heating unit insertible in the last mentioned passages and contactible with said contact ntien'ibers when said plug is partially rotated.

In combination, asupport having an interiorly enlarged end and a channeled base portion; an insulating conductor .connection block received in said enlarged end having two passages therethrough countersunk from the outer side, and channels from said countersunk passage ends communicat ing with said-base poijion channels, and having a lug cooperating with said seat-to maintain said block against rotation insaid support; connecting bolts passing through said block passages and having nuts disposed in said countersunk recesses, fiat arcuate connection springs havingone end secured to the inner side of said block by the heads A of said bolts, a nd'=having their free ends extending inwardly'terminating at opposite pointsadjacent said bolts; and conductors passing through said. channels and having their ends connected to'said bolts under said nuts.
