Description

sept. 1, 1925. 1,551,963
N. E. METHLIN PERCUSSION FUSE' mangi; 4, 1925 2 sums-smet 2 HvJ-4- @w1/MM am The travel va which the detonator holder C can have is naturally rgreater than thev distance y1 which separates the detonator from the point of the striker in the armed position (Fig. 5), while it is less than the distance g/ which separates the detonator from the point of the striker when the pro` jectile is at rest (Fig. 3).
As it is seen, in this case it is the striker B1, which is movable relatively to the body B` in which it is guided, which takes the place ofthe ring F in the preceding eX- ample, and, as in the first example any movement of the safety members E back towards the axis of `the mechanism B-C is rendered impossible as soon as these members have been remo-ved and rendered ineffective.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is:
l. A device for a projectile comprising a body portion having a chamber therein, a pair of elements mounted in telescopic relation within said chamber, a longitudinally movable member having sliding engagement with one of said element-s, means normally tending to move said member in one direction, and safety members normally preventing movement of said member adapted to move radially by centrifugal force, the re.- turn of the safety members to normal position being prevented by said longitudinally movable member.
2. A fuse for a projectile comprising a body portion having a chamber therein, aV
pair of elements mounted in telescopic relation within said chamber, one of said elements constituting a detonator holder, a longitudinally movable member extending within one of said elements, resilient means for moving said member in one direction, andV radially movable safety members normally preventing movement of said longitudinally movable member, the latter being adapted to positively lock said safety members in armed position. Y
3. A fuse for projectilesr comprising a body portion having a chamber therein, a pair of elements mounted in telescopic relation within said chamber, one of said'elements constitutingV a detonator holder, Va longitudinally movable member having sliding engagement with one of said elements, resilient means adapted to move said longitudinally movable member in one direction,
centrifugal. safety members for normally preventing movement of said member, and resilient means interposed between said detonator holder and the other of said elements. Y
4f. A fuse for projectiles comprising a fuse body, a pair of elements movably mounted in telescopic relation within the body portion, a longitudinally movable sleeve having sliding engagement with one of said elements, resilient means interposed between said sleeve and one of said elements, safety members normally preventing movement of said sleeve, said safety members being adapted to be moved radially by centrifugal force, and means for yieldingly resisting radial movement of Vsaid safety members, the return o-f said safety members to normal position being prevented by said sleeve.
5. A fuse for projectiles comprising a body portion having a chamber therein, a detonator holder and a striker body movably mounted in telescopic relation within said chamber, a longitudinally movable member having sliding engagement with said striker body, resilientmeans adapted to move said member longitudinally, centrifugally actuated safety members normally preventing longitudinal movement of said member and adapted to move radially to arm the fuse, the return of the safety members to normal position being prevented by said longitudinally movable member.
6. A- fuse for projectiles comprising a body portion having a chamber therein, a striker body and a detonator holder movably mounted in telescopic relation within said chamber, a striker carried by' said striker body, aV sleeve surrounding said striker, resilient means interposed between the sleeve and the striker body, centrifugally actuated safety members interposed between the detonator holder and the sleeve, resilient means normally preventing radial movement of said safety members, and resilient means interposed between the detonator holder and the striker.
.7. A fuse for projectiles comprising a `body portion having a chamber therein, a
striker body and a detonator holder movably mounted in telescopic relation within said chamber, a striker secured tothe striker body, a movable sleeve surrounding the striker, resilient means interposed between the sleeve and the .striker body, and icontrifugally actuatedV safety members normally preventing. movement of said sleeve and adapted to be moved radially by centrifugal force to arm the fuse, said sleeve being adapted to lock said safety members in armed position.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification.
NICOLAS EMILIEN METI-ILIN.
