Description

Patented Sept. 1, 1925.
tartar ()FFICE. I
FRANKLIN a. Lewis; or NEW max.
NEGKTIE ATTACHMENT.
Application filed April 6, 1925. Serial No. 20,887.
To (ZZZ whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, FRANKLIN C. LEWIS, a citizen of the United States, and resident of New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in necktie attachments and more particularly to attachments for use in connection with so-called four-in-hand neckties. The main object of the invention is to provide a simple and eflicient device to prevent such ties from jamming or sticking when worn with turn-over collars. A further object of the invention is to provide a device which will hold the tie near the bottom of a turn-over collar, especially at the back thereof whereby the tie will not become pinched in the top of the collar. A further object of the invention is to protect the tie from the rear collar button.
Further and more specific objects, features and advantages will more clearly appear from the detail description given below taken in connection with the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification. a perspective showing a device embodying my improvements in a preferred form thereof, inserted in a collar with a tie, part of the collar being broken away. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the device. Fig. 3 is a cross section of the same taken either on the line (l6t or the line b?) of Fig. 2 and also showing a portion of the collar and rear collar button.
Referring to the drawings, 4 represents the body portion of the device which is preferably made out of sheet metal. EX tending upwardly from the upper corners of the body portion 4 are two projecting tabs 5 and 6. 7 represents a lip or bent over portion, bent down from the top edge of the body portion 4, and 8 represents a lip or bent over portion bent up from the bottom edge of the body portion 4:. After the portions 7 and 8 are bent over they are spaced from the body portion 4 as shown in Fig. 3, thus providing a slideway between the lips 7 and 8 on one side and the body portion a on the other side, through which the necktie 2 is adapted to be placed and slide. The four-in-hand tie 2 after being placed in the slideway between the In the drawings Fig. 1 is tween. the folds of the collar.
portions 7 and 8 on one side and the body portion 4 on the other side, is pulled therethrough so that the device comes at the central part of the tie where it will be adjacent the back collar button when the tie is placed in a turn-over collar. The tie with the device is then placed in the collar between the inside fold 3' and the outside fold 3 thereof as illustrated in Fig. 3 and with the body portion l bearing against the rear collar button 1. The tabs 5 and 6 project ip to the top of the collar between the folds thereof and serve to keep the tie, which is held in the lower part of the device, at the bottom part of the collar. It will be noted that the body portion 4 and lips 7 and 8 are slightly curved to conform to the general lines of the collar and neck.
It will be seen from the above that the device provides means forming a slideway between the portions 7 and 8 on one side and the body portion 4: on the other side through which the tie may slide easily so that it may be easily tied and also easily untied at the front, and so that the tie is prevented from jamming or sticking be tween the folds of the collar at the back. Likewise the tie is protected from the rear collar button which would otherwise tend to prevent the tie from slipping freely be- It will be understood that the tabs 5 and 6 as well as the bent-over portions 7 and 8 are integral with thev body portion but so that the whole device ismade of one piece.
While I have described my improvements in great detail and with respect to a preferred form thereof, I do not desire to be limited to such form or details since many changes and modifications may be made and the invention embodied in widely different forms without departing from the spirit and scope thereof in its broader aspects. Hence I desire to cover all modifications and forms coming within the language or scope of any one or more of the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: j
1. A necktie attachment comprising a body portion provided with a horizontal guideway at the bottom part thereof in which the tie is adapted to be placed and through which the tie is adapted to slide and also provided with means extending upwardly therefrom and adapted to space the said guideway from the top edge of a turn-over collar, said guideway being formed by an integral lip extending downwardly from the top of the body portion, and an integral lip extending upwardly from the bottom of the body portion.
2. A necktie attachment comprising a body portion having at the bottom part thereof, a guideway in which the necktie is adapted to be placed and slide horizontally,
said body ,portion being provided with a
