IMPROVEMENT IN SHUTTLE-GUARDS FOR LOOMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,177, dated September 22, 1874; application filed May 16, 1814.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELAH BEACH, of Providence, Rhode Island, have invented an Improvement for Securing or Fastening the Shuttle-Guard to the Lay of a Loom, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to attach a shuttle-guard to the lay of a loom, so as to prevent the wear and breakage of the same.
The mode of fastening generally in use is to bolt a stand to each end of the lay and drill a hole in each of said stands about onehalf of one inch deep, and of sufcient size to receive the end ofthe guard, thus permitting iron to rest against iron. In such case the result is if the guard fits closely in the hold of the stand, the constant beating of the lay keeps up a continuous vibration, which results in breaking the guard at the point of entrance into the stand. The accompanying drawing shows my improvement.
Figure l represents the lay with the shuttleguard attached, Fig. 2, one of the stands near to the web. What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with the lay of a loom, the shuttle-guard rod R and the bent stands t' t, each provided with the piece L of leather or other yielding substance fitted to receive the end of the rod It, as and for the purpose set forth.
