To all whom it may concern.' Y ,v
Be it known that I, PETEnJAEB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elk River, inthe county of Sherburne and State of Minnesota, have invented certainwnewY and useful Improvements in Barn-Door Locks; and I do Vhereby declare the following. tobe a full, clear, and exactV description of the inventiomnsuch as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. ,n l
This invention relates to a lockor latch adapted to hold two relatively movable members in stationary and alined position and particularly to such a lookor latch yadapted for use with swinging doorsysuch as a heavy garage or lbarn door.` As iswell known, the barn and garage doors are often made of considerable size and greatishocksy and stresses are encountered by the locks and latches holdingthe same.
.It is an object. of this invent-ion to pro-.5'
vide a simple and'rugged latch or lock for a door whichcan be operated from either side of said door. f
VIt is a further object/of the inventiongto.
provide such a'siinple and rugged latch comprising pivoted grip handles ateither side of said door, one of said handles having a" latch connected to its pivot adapted to en-y gage a. keeper and said' handles. having means connecting the same andlpassing,W
A a latch, together with a keeper.with which said latch is` adapted to co-operatel The swinging bailrhandles with the pivot vrods and arms constitute a pair ofY bell crank leyT` ers connected together for movement in unison.

i These and other objects and advantages of the invention will be fully set forth from the following description made in connection withv the accompanying `drawings in which like reference characters refer to the lsame parts throughout the different views,
and in which, Y
Fig. 1 is a view in side elevation of a portion of one side'of the door and door jamb showing the lock and keeper therefor;
Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 2-2 of Fig; 1, asindicated bythe arrows, somev of the parts being shown in different position n in' dotted lines; and
L F ig.`3 yis a horizontalsection takenon the line of Fig. l, as indicated by the Feferring to the drawings, the devicecomprises oppositely disposed'grip handles l and 2,4 said` handles being at opposite 'sides of ythe swinging door 8 and disposed adjacent Athe free edge thereof; While any convenient and suitable form of handle may be used, in the embodiment ofthe invention illustrated, said handles areshown as'of substantial bail tshape having their top and bottom sides diverging slightly.- The handles are 'stantially inthe shape of -a trapezoid havthus subingan openside.r The handlesl and Q'are w further shown as being formed of a round rod and each handle has projecting at each i side thereof at its top portion, horizontal Y,portions l,V and 2?, respectively. j The por-r tionslaand vQaon the respective handles are journaled in' brackets ,4, one ofsaid brackets beingse'cured vat eachsideof the door. l3,
which bracket 4 `comprises spaced ears 4a 'anda U-shaped flat flange lb connecting the same, said flangebeing apertured to receive the attaching headed and nutted bolts 5. It will be noted thatgthe bracket 4 in which are. journaled the portions 2av has its flange portion 4b bracket l in whichfare disposed the por- -tions l has its flange portion VLlbfdisposed downwardly, the ears 4a `on the respective brackets being ofset vertically of the door.
YTheSha-ndle 1 has an; arm lb projecting outwardly and upwardly, asshown in Fig. 2, which arm is secured to the central part of its portion la. The handle 2 has a similar arm QVprojecting downwardly, as seen in disposed upwardly, while the.
Fig, ,2, from the central part of its portion 2, said arms 1l and 2b thus being vertically alined with their respective handles. ObF viously the handles 1 and 2y, carrying the pivot members lL and 2a, respectively,. ad the arms 1b and 2", respectively, constitute a pair of bell crank levers havingA their op-L positely extending WorkingV arnis 'connected together for movement in unison vby means of the link 6. Thus, When either handle of the bell crank levers is n'lipnla't'edf; the Teccentric latch 2L Will be moved. The arms ib and er, ener-'any' ecn-necesa by' a flat 'link 6 extending- 'thrcngh aslfot ih the doer '3' s that the' tnt-lies l-'illlidI 2 are dal'lsed t0 swing' i'n- Linis'n; Thelifn'k 6 is ksli'ivn as prsjecting a `sl'iort 'distance 'bevondV the rf.
