. H. ISCHE ET AL HEADLIGHT DEFLECTOR FiledvDec. 22, 1924 I'N VENTOR:
H(/. Be:r?-r ISCHE, ROWLAND A- Patented Aug. 25, 1925,
HUBER/1 ISCHE AND BOWL- ND A. ISCHE, or Los ANGELES, CALIFORNIA. Y
HEADLIGHT nnrmo'roa.
Application filed December 22, 1924. Serial No. 757,372.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HUBERT ISCHE and ROWLAND A. IsoHE, citizens of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Headlight Deflector, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices disposed over the front of head-lights on vehicles.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide an attachment that can be applied to the front of the rim of a head light.
Another object is to provide a device that can be applied to the front ofhead-lights so as to deflect stray rays forwardly. 7
Other objects will appear from the following description and appended claims as well as from the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of-a head-' light, having a deflector applied to its front embodying this invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary vertical mid-see tional view through the head-light and attachment. r
The front rims are generally made detgaphable in so-called head-lights of automo- The attachment, disclosed herewith, is preferably made and designed to be at tached or applied to such a detachable front rim of a head-light.
In Fig. 1, 3 designates a head-light of a common form.
The front portion of the rim 4 of this head-light is illustrated in cross-section in Fig. 2. To the front face of this rim 4 the new attachment is applied, as by rivets in-V dicated at 5, or in any other similar suitable manner. The attachment can in this manner easily be applied or removed from the headlight with the rim 4.
The attachment consists mainly of the base flange 6, a partly cylindrical section 7, a front flange 8 projecting centrally from the front end of the section 7, and another downwardly and a head-light housing,
ing forwardly from the upper inwardly projecting flange 9 extending upwardly flush with the base flange 6. The flanges 8 and 9 serve to check and deflect stray rays, the main beam of light being allowed to pass through the attachment, since a suitable opening 10 is left in the center portion of the flange 8 and another central opening 11 is left in the flange 9.
The lower extension flange 9 serves to deflect side and stray rays upwardly into the hood-like structure formed by the section. 7 and the flange 8. e
The, flange 8 serves to deflect side and stray rays in a downwardly direction past the lower flange 9 towards the road in front. of a vehicle to which this device is applied.
To revent any rays of the main lightbeam rom a head-light from reflecting sidewise through the central openings 10 and 11 so as to eventually cause a glaring, baffles 12 are provided to direct the rays of the main beam in a straight-forward direc- 7 tion.
Having thus described our invention, we claim: I
1. In a head-light deflector, a base flange adapted to be applied to the front face of a body portion extending forwardly from the base flange in the upper section of the flange, a'second flange extending centrally from the front edge of the body portion and having a central opening, and a third flange extending centrally and upwardly from the lower section of the base flange and having a central opening.
2. In a head-light deflector, a base ange adapted to be applied to the front face of a head-light housing, a body portion extending forwardly from the upper section of the base flange, and another flange extending centrally and downwardly from the body portion and having a central opening, and battle-plates disposed within the body portion and named flange rearwardly. v
3. In a head-light deflector, a base flange adapted to be applied to the front face of a head-light housing, a body portion projectsection of extending from the secondthe base flange, another flange extending from the front end of the body portion centrally and downwardly and having a central opening, the last-named flange being practically parallel to a lens of a head-light to Which this device is applied, and battles between the second-named flange and such a lens of a head-light in a plane parallel to the main beam of light from the headlight through the said central opening in 10 the second-named flange.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our invention We have signed our names.
