Be it known that I, WILLIAM KAISLING, a. citizen of the UnitedStates of America, and a resident of Chicago, rcounty of Cook, and
State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in* Receivers, of
which the following .is a specification.
Myinvention relates to receivers and has to do more particularly with the so-called -Watch-case receivers which are used as head receivers for telephone switchboard operators. i g An object of my invention is the provision of a receiver of sim lified construction, and in which the weight is reduced to a minimum without impairing the efiioiency ofthe device. i

The permanent magnet M consists of a plurality of horseshoeshaped pieces 8 of steel or 'other suitable` magnetic material, each of, which is permanently magnetized, said magnets being placed one upon another and being rearward yextending Acup member 7 and fit along the inner periphery of the said cup member 7, with'their. ends 9 terminating l over the portions 10 of the pole pieces 11, .as clearly illustrated in Fig. 5. The rod 18 also serves as a securing means or su porting means for the receiver head band as will be more fully hereinafter described. i
From the above description it may berseen that by providing an eccentrically disposed cup member 7, I am enabled to reduce the size of the magnet considerably, and the magnet M which rests in the eccentrically disposed cu is so constructed as to bring the poles o the magnets in the center With relation to the diaphragm.- This type of construction* permits the use of a much smaller magnet and. reduces the weight considerably, but ldoes not impair the eiiciency In order to connect the magnet -coils 12 in` the electrical circuit in which the instrument is to be used, suitable bindng'posts B are provided. `Aseparate terminal `block 2O is provided and is of suitable insulating material suchfas bakelite, and the terminal studs 21 are rovided which are suitably imbedded in t e terminal block 20 during the moulding operation of the same. The studs 21 are provided with reduced portions 22, which are threaded and extend through suitable orifices 23 in the bottom of the cas- 21 and clamp the terminal clips 24 between said nuts 26 and the casing 2; The terminal clips 24 are rovded with terminal ends (Fig. 4) to-w 'ch the terminals of the coils 12 are soldered. When the lock 'nuts 26 are tightenedupon the threaded portions 22 of the studs -21, the said nuts 26 also secure the terminalv block 20 to the bottom face of the casing 2. The portion of the studs 2l which are imbedded fin the terminal block 20 are provided with transverse orices27, and the 'ices'v 27, clamping screws 30 are provided,
engaging the centrally tapped orifices 31 in the stud 21. The said screws 3() when tightened clamp the metal tips 29 `in the said openings 27 against displacement. The ter- `-minal block 2() is provided with an orifice 32 through which the strain cord 33 of the receiver cord is inserted and tied so as to relieve vthe 'strain from the cord teminals 29.
The receiver head 'band support comprises a U-shaped member 34 of suitable spring metal upon which the head band H of spring wire is pivotally secured by means f of the clip 38 provided with a pair of extensions 39, which are suitably formedover the ends 37 of the Wire head band H- The member 38, which supports the head band H, Y
U-shaped member 34 is slightly smaller than the width of the rib 44 Yformed upon the cup member 7, and to place the member 34- in pivotal engagement with the pins 42 the legs of the U-shaped member 34 are forced apart and released so as to slip orices 43 over the pins 42. When in this position the Ilegs of the member 34 fare under spring tension and hold said member 34 and head band H in pivotal position upon the pins 41 and the pivotal support of the head band H by means of the pivot 41 and the pivotal supports of the U-shaped member 34 upon the pins 42 permits a ready adjustment of the receiver so that it can lalways rest in a correct and easy position against the operators ear.y
Having described a specific form of my invention, l do not Wish, however, to be limited to the exact structure as illustrated and described, but aim to cover all changes themselves in vthe appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire-to' secure by United States Letters Patent, ish:

7. In a receiver, the combination of an outer casing, a magnet and cooperating parts within saidcasing, agpair of binding posts, a terminal block, said binding posts being concealed within said terminal block, threaded extensions for said binding posts extending from said terminal block and into openings in the rear wall of said casing, lock nuts having screw-threaded engagement with said threaded extension for securing said block to said casing, connection means between said binding posts and the magnet coils' in said casing, and each binding post being provided with an aperture for connection to the receiver cord, the terminal block being provided with openings' for the receiver cords, and binding screws inserted in each of said binding posts.
8. In a receiver having an outer casing, a
permanent magnet and cooperating ,parts within said casing, a pair of binding posts,

14. ln a receiver of the Vclass described, adiaphragln With its electrcmagnet, an arcuate laminated permanent magnet therefor eccentric to said diaphragm, an angular pole piece for said magnet constituting the core of said electromagnet, and an enclosing case having an integrally and eccentrically formed member for receiving said permanent magnet, electromagnet and said pole piece, sc that said magnet is positioned eccentrically to said diaphragm and said electromagnet is positioned centrally to said diaphragm, and means for securing said magnet and electromagnet in position.
l5. ln a receiver of the class described, a diaphragm and its electromagnet, an enclosing case for them, and a terminal block for the receiver cord terminals, detachably' mounted on the exterior of said case, said terminal block adapted to receive the receiver cord terminals and to secure the same to and Within said terminal block.
16. ln a receiver of the class described, a diaphragm and its electromagnet, an enclosing case for them, a terminal block for a receiver cord terminal on the outside of said case, and mechanical connecting means operated from Within the .case for attaching and detacliing said block, said terminal block adapted to receive the receiver cord terminal and to have the same secured to and Within said terminal block.

21. ln a receiver of the character described including a casing provided with an integrally and eccentrically formed cup member, a permanent magnet and magnet coils secured Within said cupmember and casing, a' terminal block secured to said casing, cylindrical members secured in said terminal blocks and electrically connected to said magnet coils, said terminal block and casing being provided with openings for receiving terminals of a receiver cord to permit the contactual engagement of said terminal and said cylindrical members, and means for engaging` said cylindrical members and said terminals for retaining said terminals in contactual engagement with said cylindrical members.
