To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN O. SATHER, a citizen of the United States, residin at Luverne, in the county of Rock and tate of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Im" rovements in Show Cases, of
which the ollowing is a specification. 3
This invention relatesto a show or dislay case designed primarily fordisplaying 1 ruits' and vegetables, but it is-to be under stood that a show case, in accordance with this 2 invention, can be employed for any purposes for which it is found applicable, and the inrovide,-in a manneras hereinafter set fort a show or "display case including a plurality of independent compartments for receiving differ-- ent articles of merchandise visible to a cus- 3 tomer through a front transparent wall [20 common to all of said compartments, and
further providing the case, at'itsrearwith means whereby access can be had independently to each compartment for removing the merchandise therefrom without disturbing the front display of the same until the en- "tire contents of such compartment has been [sold or removed. A further object of the invention isto proof independent com artments, each having means' to vide, in'a manner'as hereinafter set forth, a show or display case'formed of a plurality rovide or independent access thereto an further with means toprovide for the independent ventilation of each com partment when the latter is closed.
' Further objects of the invention are to pro wide in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a show or display formedof aplurality of independent compartments and whic is simple in its construction and arrangements,
of the nvention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which fall within thescope of the claims herewith appended.
Inthe drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views:-- f
Figure 1, is a front elevation of a shoe or display case in accordance withthis invention. t

Figure 4, is a section on line 4 4, Figure Figure ,5, is a section on line 5-5, Figure case comprises a pair of vertically disposed side walls 1, 2 of substantial height, width and thickness and each of which has its inner face, near its forward edge, formed with a length wise extending groove 3.
Arranged between the walls 1, 2 and flush with the forward edgesthereof, is a series of superposed combined spacing and retaining members. The said members are secured, in any suitable manner to the wall 1, 2 as well as abut against the inner faces thereof. The said members further are spaced e ui-distant with respect to each other, an the upper member of the series is I I Referring to the drawings in detail the indicated at 4, the lower member at 5, and.
the intermediate members at 6. 'The member'4 is flush with the top edges of the walls 1, 2. .The member 5 is o greater width than either of the other members of said series and depends below the bottom edges of the walls 1, 2, and said member 5 is rabbeted, as at 7, to provide a seat for a purpose to -be'presently referred to. The members 4 and6 are of the same width.
Arranged between and; secured to the walls 1, 2 is a series of superposed rectangular frames 8 and which are of less length than the widthof such walls. The frames 8' are arranged equi-distant with respect to each other and the upper and lower frames 1 .of said series are flush repectively with the top and bottom edges of the walls 1, 2. The upper frame opposes and is spaced from the member 4, the lower frame abuts against the inner face of the member 5'directly below the rabbet 7, and each of the other frames o poses and is spaced from a member 6. he frames 8 are arrangedrearwardly of the -members 4,5 and 6,'and terminate at a point forwardly of the rear edges ofv the walls 1, '2.
The front wall ofthe case is indicated at' 9, and which is constructed'of a transparent panel mounted inthe grooves 3, and seated on the shoulder formed by the rabbet 7. The wall 9 has its top edge flush with the top edges of the wall 1, 2 and said wall 9, is interpcsedbetween the members 4, 5 and 6 and the frames 8, with the exception of the lower one of said frames 8.
The rear wall of the case includes a series of wide sections 10 and a series of narrow sections 10' and which are interposed between and secured to the side walls 1, 2. The sections are so arranged relatively to each other whereby a narrow section will be positioned above and spaced from a wide section and the upper section of the series of sections 10 has its top edge flush with the top edges of the walls 1, 2 and lowermost section 10 depends below the bottom edges of such walls and the depending portion of the said section 10 is flush with the member 5. The sections 10 and 10 abut against the rear end of the frames 8. The openings formed between the sections 10 and 10 are of rectangular contour and indicated at 11. Each of the sections 10 is provided centrally thereof with a rectangular opening 12.
The outer. face of each section 10, di-
rectly below each opening 11, is cutaway lengthwise to provide a pair of opposed shoulders 13 and a pair of opposed shoulders 14. Each opening 12 is arranged between a pair of opposed shoulders 13. Secured to each pair of opposed shoulders 14 1s a pair of opposed and spaced retaining strips 15, which in connection with apair of opposed shoulders 13 provide a slide way 16 for a 'shiftable screen 17 normally in a position to oppose and partly close an opening 12 The rear will further includes a series of transparent doors or closures, each of which is indicated at 18, and arranged in an 0 ening 11. Each dooror closure is hinge at its top, as at 19, to a section 10'. A knob 20 is carried by each door or closure to facilitate the swinging thereof to open and shut position with respect-to an opening 11. Secured to the top of each of the frames 8, with the exception of the upper frame 8, 1s a rectangular partition, which abuts ,against the inner faces of the walls 1, 2 and extends from the front wall 9 to the rear wall of the case. Secured to the "upper frame 8 and member/1, as well as to the top edges of the walls 1, 2, 9 and 10, is the top wall 21 which pro'ects laterally from the said walls and mom or 4. The wall 21 is of rectangular contour.
Seven partitions are shown, but the number can be increased or diminished dependmg upon the number of indep'ndent comartments the case is to be provided with.
. e 2partitions are indicated at 22,23, 24, 25, 26,
