EMERGENCY .application filed r Tannary 5 State of Florida, have invented a certain new and useful Emergency Toothbrush, of which the following is a specification.

This invention, generally stated, relates to toilet articles and has more especial relation to a novel form of tooth brush for use by travellers and others. Y

The leading object of the present invention is to provide as a new article of manufacture a tooth brush for use by travellers r and others in case of emergency, calculated for sale at news stands and like available places and made of cheap material and designed for a single use.

A. further object of the present invention is to provide a tooth brush of the character stated which may be placed in a paper covering together with a little powdered chalk or equivalent material so that the traveller receives the brush in a sanitary condition together with suflicient tooth cleansing material for a single use.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel construction hereinafter described and finally claimed.

rIhe nature, characteristic features and scope of the invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, and in which:

Fig. 1, is a top or plan view of a tooth brush embodying the invention.

Fig. 3, is a view in cross section taken upon the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 4, is a view in cross section taken upon the line 4 4 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 5, is a perspective view of a reinforcing frame hereinafter referred to; and

Fig. 6, is a view in longitudinal section of a mold used in assembling the handle portion of the tooth brush.

For the purpose of illustrating my invention I have shown in the accompanying drawings one form thereof which is at present preferred by me, since the same has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities TOOTHBRUSH.

of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of the instrumentalities as herein shown and described.

In practice the new article of manufac ture about to be described comprises a tooth brush of very cheap material and calculated to be put up in sanitary containers, as a paper cover, togetherwith a small quantity of powdered chalk or other tooth cleansing material to be dispensed for emergency use by travellers and others at a very nominal ligure. rIhe brush is calculated for emergency use, or in other words, for a few uses. Referring now to the drawings in detail, the numeral 1 designates my novel construction of tooth brush the same comprising a handle member or body composed of an upper and lower thickness of

suitable materials

2 and 3 which are preferably first formed as blanks having substantially the contour shown in Figs. 1 and 2. That is, the blanks throughout substantially the major portion of their extent are each formed upon an arc of a circle. I next take a wire stiffening or reinforcing frame 4 having the general contour of a rectangle, as seen in nig. 5. 'Ihis frame is composed of the sides 5 and the ends 6 and 7, the ends G being preferably curved to conform to the curved end 10 of the handle. rIhe frame 4 is also formed upon an arc of a circle throughout the major portion of its extent to agree with the blanks forming the handle.

2 and 3 are arranged in superimposed relation with the frame 4 therebetween and these parts are then placed between the members 11 and 12 of a mold and by tightening the screws 13 suflicient pressure is exerted upon the handle parts to cause the

2 and 3 to adhere, it being understood that adhesive material as glue or the like has been interposed between the blanks prior to the compression operation. In practice good results have been obtained by making the

handle parts

2 and 3 of paper or card-board. In practice the frame is made of a size so that when inserted between the

blanks

2 and 3 the marginal edges of the frame are spaced from the marginal edges of the handle parts. rIhus, while the marginal portions of the handle are braced to reinforce the frame this is not discernible because the marginal edges of the handle have been caused to adhere together beyond the edges of the frame. This is so because during the compression period between the parts of the mold, the wire frame will become embedded in the paper. The assembled parts when finished will appear specifically as seen in the sectional views, Figs. 2 to 4, and a very light, rigid and efficient handle or body structure will thus be provided. I preferably secure the bristles 8 to the backing strip 9 in any suitable .manner and then glue or otherwise attach said strip 9 and its complemental bristles to the handle or body portion as clearly showniin `Fig. .2. In this connection it is to be noted that the bristles may be somewhat smaller than in a conventional tooth brush and fewer bristles are employed than is usual practice with conventional tooth brushes.

It will now be apparent that I have devised a vnovel and useful construction which embodies the features of advantage enumerated vas desirable in lthe statement of the invention .and the above description and while I have in the present instance shown and Vdescribed the preferred embodiment thereof which has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of .modification in various .particulars without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as'new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

l. As a new article of manufacture a tooth brush for emergency use consisting of a pair of thin superimposed strips of fibrous material secured together by an adhesivel to form a handle, said strips having interposed thercbetween a reinforcing frame and a bristle carrying member secured to the underside of said handle.

2. As a new article of manufacture a tooth brush for emergency use consisting of a pair of thin superimposed strips of fibrous material, the major portion of said strips being formed upon an arc of a circle and secured together by compression to form a handle, said strips having interposed therebetween a reinforcing frame comprised of apiece of wire bent in substantially rectangular fashion to strengthen the marfginal portions of said handle, said frame being embedded in the contiguous surfaces of said strips, and the outer marginal edges ofsaid strips beyond said frame being secured together beyond the edges thereof, and a bristle carrying member secured to the underside of said handle.
