This invention relates to locks and particularlv to a lock which normally can be operated only 'troni the outside and only upon the insertion oi a coin, check or token o'l deterr ined value. '.llhe lock case or housing is shown as a vertically elongated shell l, having at its upper end two slots 2 and 3, the lirst being` a signal slot and the second a coin slot. ln Vthe liront wall oil the case is an opening Ll, adapted to be closed by a cover plate or door 5, having at its upper edge a projecting oltset lip or flange 6, to engage the upper edge of the opening,i Ll, the lower end oit the cover plate being; fastened by a locking lug` 'l' engaging a slot 8 in the keeper plate 9, fastened to the interior of the case. The locking lug is adapted to be controlled by a lock l0 of appropriate construction, the lock being operated by a keyll. When the cover plate is removed, access can be had to the bottom o1 the case to ieinove the coins which have been deposited therein.

The main lool; carrying trame is shown as consisting ot three substantially parallel plates designated 12, 13 and 141, a ranged from the front to the back in the order named. The intermediate plate 13 supports the remaining plates and the entire trame is secured in an appropriate manner within the case. The plate 13 carries a coin chute 15, the inlet end 16 ot which registers with the slot 3 so that the coin, checl: or token, 11ereinafter referred to a coin, can be introduced into the coin chute so that it may pass 'through to be intercepted by the coin-actuated mechanism.

Below the coin chute are two coin detent levers 17 and 18, pivoted to the plate 13. The toe 19 ot' the lever 17 and the curvec-L face 2O ot the lever 18 are in spaced relation but the space between. them will normallyY be such as to prevent the passage o? the coin until the bolt is withdrawn. The toe 19 of the lever 17 is normally in the position shown in F ig. 13. v'hen the coin drops :trom the chute 15, it will contact with the toe of the lever 17 and cause it to nieve downwardly to the position shown in Fig. 14 so that the coin will at irst be held in the position shown in Fig. lei. As the toe of the lever 17 moves downwardly, its heel 21 will be raised, carrying with it a pivoted register-actuating dog 22, the toe 23 et which may move into position to be engaged by the longitudinally movable bolt 24, which is to be actuated by `mechanism to be hereinafter described.

As soon as the weight ot' the coin 32 is taken oft the toe ot the lever 17, the lever will re-assume the position shown in Fig. 13. rThe bolt 2li is urged outwardly into keeper-engaging position by a spring 33 which is carried by the plate 13.
