Application filed December 26, 1923. Serial No. 682,718.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK A. Tnrrr, a citizen of the United States, and a residentof Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Lath Holder, which invention is fully set forth in the following specification.
My invention has for its object to provide a simple and efficient lath holder for use in connection with a distributing box electrical fixture supporting bar. In order to do away with boxing for supporting switch boxes and line distribution or terminal boxes in the walls of buildings, metal bars have been used that are nailed to studding during the construction of the walls. I have provided adouble channel slotted bar for supporting such electrical devices f in any position or positions along the bar. Also the bar may be easily severed at the ends of the slot to form two separate channeled bars that may be located and secured in spaced relation to the studding of the wall. Electrical devices that have flanges, as is common with switch boxes, etc., may be secured between the bars, the flange being located Within the channels of the bars. The lath holder embodying my invention is placed at the sides of the box and likewise secured in the channels of the bars. Lath may then be inserted in the holders and nailed to; the studding, the holders securing the ends of the lath in proximity to the sides of the box for keying the plaster that is placed around the box when the walls of the building are plastered. The lath holders are provided with projecting elastic ears or tongues located at their ends and are bellied laterally or are sprung from their normal positions to resiliently engage the edge portions of the flanges of the channel bar on one side of each of the tongues and the body portion of the channel bars on the other side of each of the tongues. The lath holders are also-provided with portions that are bent relative to each other to form sockets.
The invention may be contained in lath holders that may be varied in their details of construction. To illustrate a practical application of the invention I have selected a lath holder containing the invent-ion and shall describe it hereinafter. The lath holder selected is shown in the accompanying drawings.

Fig. 6 is a sectional view taken on the line 66 indicated in Fig. 5.
In connection with my invention a slotted bar 1 .is provided with turned edges 2, that form two channels along the sides of the bar and on opposite sides of the slot 3. The channeled portions of the bar are interconnected by small integral portions 4 that are located at the ends of the slot 3. The bar may be divided into two separable parts by merely bending the two portions of the bar relative to each other as by pliers so as to break the bar through the portions 4:. The two channel parts form separate channel bars 2 that may be located in spaced rclation and secured to studding 5 that form the supporting structure of the wall of the building, as by lath nails 6, and suitable terminal switch boxes, such as, the terminal box 7, may be located between the bars. The boxes are provided with flanges that may be placed in the channels of the channeled bars 2.
In order to support lath within the spaces between the bars 2 and enable the formation of a plaster wall, that is, in order that the plaster may be keyed between the bars 2, lath is nailed to the studding and located between the bars 2. In order to hold the ends of the lath located in proximity to the box 7, I have provided a lath holder that may be secured in position by the channel bars 2. g
The lath holder 8 is formed of sheet metal and has portions bent at right angles to each other in order to form sockets into which the ends of the lath may be inserted. The lath holder 8 is provided with three sides 9, 10 and 11. The ends of the sides 9 are provided with tongues 12 that are bellied laterally as at 13 and are bent towards the longitudinal axis of the holder, as at 14, and so that when the tongue of the lath holder is inserted in the channel the bellied portions 13 will engage the edge portion of the channel to prevent movement of the lath holder along the channel when the lath holder is held in the plane of the edges of the studding by the other channel bar. The lath holder may thus be placed at any point along either channel bar 2 and seother channel bar and the other channel bar is nailed to the studding.
