PANE-CONNECTING MEANS.
Application filed July 19, 1924. Serial No. 721,022.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS H. BROOME, a. citizen of the United States, and resident of Jersey City, in the county of. Hudson and .State of New Jerse have invented a new over my copending application Serial No.
One of the outstanding objects of the present invention is to rovide :1. connect ing means for the meeting edges of glass panes which eliminates the necessity of bevellin'g said meeting edges and consequently does away with the time and labor incidentto the bevelling operation which is essential at the present time to procure a weatherproof joint.
Another feature of the present invention resides in the provision of a sealing element which functions to engage within the re entrant angle defined by the meeting edges of the panes irrespective of the relative angularity of the panes and which sealing ele ment is impinged and maintained in active sealing relation to the meeting edges of the panes by the connecting, means.

With the above recited and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction set forth in the following specification, particularly pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being underst od. that the right is reserved to embodiments other than those actually illustrated herein, to the full extent indicated by the general meaning of the terms in which the clain'is are expressed.

Referring to the drawings by characters of reference A. A designates respective glass panes or panels which adapted to be connected to each other and disposed at an angle by means of a connecting and sealing device which constitutes the present invention. The meeting: edges'll of the panes or panels A are provided with complementary recesses C in the contacting corners D defined by the inner surface of the pane or panel and the meeting, edge B.
The connecting means includes inner and outer anqle clips 1 and '21 the former comprising a pair o't angularly disposed arms l2 and a connecting portion 13 and. the latter a pair of augnlarly disposed arms Iii the inner ends of which are joined together and are preferably formed integral. The outer member ii is provided at the juncture ot" the arms 14 with. an inwardlyprojecting threaded stud 15- and the connecting portion or bight- 13 of the inner member 10 is nnidially apertured as at 16 to receive there through the tree end of the. stud 15 after which the retaining nut 17' is threaded on the projecting end of the stud whereby the arms 12 and 14 may properly grip and maintain the panes A in connected relation. It is of course understood that the stem extends through the complementaryaligned recesses C at the contacting corners D of the meeting edges B of the panes A. The studs 15 are, provided at the ends which are attached to the enter clip members 11 with suitable anchoring heads 18 which are embedded in the juncture of the arms 14 when the member-ll is molded. The arms 14 at their juncture are provided at the apex of ,the angle of their inner side faces with a gate element such as a tube or rod 20'which is preferably of circular formation in cross section and ada ted to snugly fit within the re-entrant ang e defined by the meeting edges B'of the panes. The sealing elements 20 have their opposite ends inserted within the semi-circular grooves 19 of adjacent clips with the terminals in abutting relation to the studs 15 so that when the retaining nuts 17 are screwed home, the grooved portions 19 of the outer clip members 11 embrace and impinge a portion of the periphery of the sealing elements against the meeting edges of the panes throughout the entire. length of the sealing element. sired a suitable: lastic, substance may be employed as a ca king between the periphery of the sealing element 20 and the meeting edges of the panes although such is not deemed essential as the rounded periphery of the sealing element which of necessity seats itself in the angle produced by the meeting edges.
From the foregoing it will thus be seen that an extremely simple and inexpensive mode'of connecting and sealing the meeting edges of glass panes or anels has been devised which eliminates -t e necessity of bevelling the meeting edges to procure a weatherproof joint.
I claim: 1
1. A device for connecting and sealing the meeting edges of angularly disposed panes comprising inner and outer angle clips each havlng a pair of an larly disposed arms, inwardly projecting t ireaded studs from the outer angle clip members, the said inner clip members having a central aperture receiving said studs, a nut threaded on said stud constitutingmeans for connecting the inner and outer clip members and for draw- .mg the same towardeach other to effect the clamping of the arms of said clip members with respect to the panes whereby to cause If deone corner of each meeting edge to be brought intocontact and a sealing element of circular cross sectional configuration positioned between each adjacent. pair of clips embraced at their opposite ends by the outer .member of the angle clips and fitting within the re-entrant angle defined by the meeting edges of the panes.

A device for-connecting and sealing the meeting edges of angularly disposed panes comprising inner and outer angle cli 5 each having a pair of angularly dispose arms, inwardly projecting threaded studs from the outer angle clip members, the said inner clip members having a central aperture recciving said studs, a nut threaded on said stud constituting means for connecting the inner and outer clip members and for drawing the same toward each other to efiect the clamping of the arms ofsaid clip members with respect to the panes whereby to cause one corner of each meeting edge to be brought into contact and a sealing element of circular cross sectional configuration positioned between each adjac/ent pair of clips embraced attheir opposite ends by the outer member of the angle clips and fitting with in the re-entrant angle defined by the meeting edges of the panes the said contacting corners of the meeting edges having complementary aligned recesses through which the threaded studs extend. j
