Be it known that I, Bnrr'roN A. VAN NAUKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fa etteville, in the county of Onondaga an State of New York, -have 1nvented new and useful Improvements 1n Spark Plugs, of which the following 1s a specification. v
This invention relates to igmters, particularly to spark plugs, and has for its ob]ect the provision of a'spark plug which 1s so constructed as to prevent the accumulation of carbon which so quickly fouls and short circuits ordinary plugs. y
Another object 1s the Aprovision ofaspark plug in which one electrode is of asring like nature so as to points atwhich the spark may jump.
Still another object is the provision of a plug in which the central electrtide 1s .zentirely contained within the skirt to" accomplish the manifest advantage of providing a larger space smaller deposit of carbon will be left.
An addltional object is the provision of a. device of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, positive inaction, efficient and durable in service and a general improvement in the art.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Referring more particularly to the drawings the numeral 10 designates the metallic body or shell which is formed with a bore 11 and a counter-bore 12 which is threaded. At one -`end, the end opposite the counterbore, the body is prolonged to define a skirt 13 which is threaded for engagement within the spark plug receiving hole of an engine.
Disposed within this bod is the usual core 14 of insulating materia such as porcelain or the like and this core has one end extending within the bore 11. Intermediate its ends ythe' core is formed with a flange or longitudinal section enlargement 15 engaged within the counterbore 12, and located at opposite sides of this enlargement are the usual packing gaskets 16. The numeral 18 represents the central electrode which passes axially through the core and which 1s equi ped with the usual clamping nut 19 and inding nuts 20 for making connection with the current carr ing wires of the engine. The essence of t 'e invention lies in the provision of a metallic ring 21 which is sweated, shrunk or `otherwise, secured within the skirt 13 and which has its face\toward the end of the skirt concaved as clearly disclosed so that any oil accumulating on this ring will flow toward the wall of the skirt. This rin has a cenor tapered and whichconformingly fits against the adjacent end of the core. The fit is of such a nature as to permit ex ansion of the parts when a high degree o heat is reached in the cylinder in which the plu is used, but it is intended that the fit be su ciently close as to exclude oil and as from the space between this ringor isk and the major ortion of the core.- The central electrode 18 passes through this o ening or hole and projects slightly beyon the ring .or disk, and in actual practice itis preferable that the hole 21 be of such a diameter as to provide the usual distance betweenits wall and the periphery of the central electrode, the general practice bein'g .to rovide a gap of oney thirty-second of an inch, though the exact distance may limits.
