A faucet comprising a casing having an interior chamber which has a fluid-inlet and a downwardly discharging fluid-outlet, fa: valve arranged to control communication through said outletand movable upwardly in opening and having a rotatable stem Vwhich extends upwardly above the casingy and has an external thread, an upright spout-forming tube rigid with the. casing and communicating with land arranged Wholly below said outlet, the casing having a seat for the valve at and around said outlet and also having a screw-threaded aperture which extendsthrough the top of the casing and is concentric in relation to the valve, and a stuling-box comprising an ex-1 ternally threaded body which surrounds said stem and is screwed at said aperture into the casing and has a lower end face and an internal thread engaging with the thread on said stein, the mutually engaging threads of said stem and said body having the pitch required to move the valve from its closed position into its fully'openposition subv and has an upwardly'flaring upper end porstantially during aflialfgturn lofgsaid stein' I about its axis, andthe valvefabuttingnits fully- Vopenposition,; against the aforesaid Y y l l and a stulhngbox comprising a body which` surrounds said stem and has an internal thread engaging with the thread on saidv stem and also has an external vdownwardly facing annular beveledshouldervwhicli isfinV fluid-tight relation to the surroundingl wall of-saidportion of said aperture, ysaid body'l being c externally threaded below said shoulder and screwed atsaid aperture ,into y Y the casing below said portion ofsaidl aper`v ture and having a lower end'v face below said aperture,`and a portionofthe valve overlapping said face when the' valve is fully open.

a stuffing-box comprising a body which surrounds the valve-stem and is rigid with the casing and has an .internal thread engaging with said thread on said stem, and a handle Voperativelyrembracing said stem and hav ing an arm arrangedv to travelexternally of the casing and circum'ferentially 0f the valve during rotation of said stem' land spaced, in the fully open position ofthe valve, from the aforesaid Vflange circumferentially of the valvein-one directionfsaidv l arm being larranged t'o bemoved, byand Vduring rotation of said 'stemf in the direction and to the extent required to Vactuate the valve from said open position into its closed position, substantially just beyond the aforesaid hole so as to permit vthe exten? sion, through said hole, of the bowl of a padlock when the valve is closed.
