Description

Patented July 28, 1925.
UNITED YSTATE-s vCARL HJALMAR PETEnssoN, or GOTTENBORG, SWEDEN. y
LATCH.
l .Application `iledilune 13, 1924. Serial No. 719,903.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL I-IJALMAR PETnRssoN, a subject of the King ofrSweden,
residing ait Gottenborg, Sweden, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Latches; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, concise, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to Vlatches for windows, doors and the like having a pivotable bolt connected with a movable bolt-actuating member by means of which the bolt can be moved into latched or unlatched position.
The invention has for its main object to provide simple and reliable means for transmitting the movement between said boltactuating member' and bolt.l
One embodiment of the invention isr illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein Figures 1 and 2 show side elevations of the latch in unlatched and latched position. y
Figures 3 and f1 are sections of the latch on the lines I-I and II-II in Figures 1 and 2 respectively and with the parts in corresponding operative positions.
The latch shown in the drawing is provided with three latching bolts, an upper bolt 14, an intermediate bolt 1 and a lower bolt 15. A latch-casing 16 is provided for each of the bolts 14 and 15 which may be of any known construction and, therefore, these bolts are not shown in details. By means of a member 4 rotatably journalled in a casing 161 and provided with a hole 17 for the spindle of a handle (not shown) and rods 13 connected with the member i by means of links 131 all of the bolts are operated..
The bolt 1 is pivotably journalledon a pin or pivot 5 carried by lugs 51 on the rear side of the latch-plate 11. The bolt 1 when moved into latching position, as shown in Figures 2 and 4, projects through a recess or an opening12 in said plate. The bolt 1 receives its motion from one of the rods 13 by means of a link or links 3 which by a pin or pivot 10 is or are hinged to said rod and by a pin or pivot 9 to an intermediate member 2. This member is provided in a recess 18 in the bolt 1 and hinged to the latter by a pin or pivot 7 which is Substantially parallel with the pin or pivot 5 of the bolt.v The pivots 9, 10 are, lprac- `tically, mutually parallelv and aredispo'sed about perpendicularly to the pivots 5, 7.
l It might be understood that I do not desire to limit my invention to the embodiment above described with reference to the drawing. The bolt 1 may, for inst., be conn nected `with a rotatable member, fory inst.
such a one similar to the member li, directly by means of the link or links 3. The number ofV the bolts may, naturally, also be varied .according to the circumstances in which the latch is to be used.
What I claim is 1. A latch comprising in combination a base plate, a bolt pivotally connected to said base plate and adapted to swing into latchring position through an opening in s aid base plate, a boltactuating member moving in a plane substantially perpendicular to the plane of movement of said bolt, an intermediate member pivotally connected to said bolt, la link having Aits opposite ends connected to said intermediate member and bolt actuating'member, the pivot connecting the bolt with the intermediate member being substantially parallel with the pivot connection between saidvbolt and base plate, and the pivots connecting the link with said rintermediate member j and vbolt actuating member respectively, lying in a plane at substantial right angles to the first connection of said bolt and base plate.
2. A latch comprising in combination a base plate, abolt pivotally connected to said base plate and adapted to swing intolatching position through an opening in said base plate, a sliding rod movable substantially parallel with the pivoting, aXis of said bolt for operating the same, an vintermediate member pivotally connected to said bolt, a
' linkV pivotally connected at one end to said swinging bolt, a pair of parallel links each having Vone end connection to said inter mediate member, vand the opposite ends of said links being vpivotally -connectedjto said `comprising a base plate, a swinging boltY pivotally supported thereupon and having a recess therein, an intermediate member hav- Vving one end seated within said recess, a pin extending through said bolt and intermediate member forming' a pivotal connection therebetween, a bolt actuating means, a link included in said bolt actuating means and a pin extending through said intermediate member and link forming a pivot connection therebetween extending at right angles to the pivot connection between the bolt and intermediate member.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
` Y CARL HJALMAR PETERSSON.
