Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDMUND BROWN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO H. A. MOKELVEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN GAS-REGULATORS;
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,744, dated September 8, 1874; application filed February 26, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDMUND BROWN, of Chicago, Illinois, have invented a Gas-Regulator, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to furnish an unvarying pressure to the burners, to prevent them from blowing and wastin g gas, by means of the following-described device attached to the meter. It consists of an elliptical valve, B, hung on its center H, in the cylinder 0, and connected with a flexible cap, S, by means of the wire D, with joint 0, and weighted to the pressure required by weights placed in the cup F.
It will be seen that when the valve B is closed it stands at an angle, the inside of the cylinder acting as a shoulder against which it strikes, thus allowing it to operate with the least amount of friction, and that the edge of the valve is beveled to fit the cylinder, and to ofl'er the least resistance to the passage of the gas. a It is operated by the pressure of gas in the receiver A against the flexible cap S. If the pressure is too high it raises the cap and closes the valve. If too low the cap is depressed by the Weight in the cup F and the valve is opened.
I claim as my invention- The elliptical bevel-edged valve B in cylinder (l, with bearings H H and hinge-joint 0, combined with the flexible cap S and weightcup F, substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.
EDMUND BROWN. t
