This invention relates to a pencil equipped with propelling mechanism interiorly of its body, and operable by means exteriorly thereof, for advancing into operative posi-- tion a lead at one end, and an eraser at the other. In many respects the present pencil follows the construction already disclosed in certain patents of Charles R. Keeran grant ed March 22, 1921, as Nos. 1,372,296 and 1,137 ,8541; it exhibits, however, certain improvements which have to do particularly with a magazine within the pencilv for the accommodation of reserve leads. Tt is to be understood, therefore, that the present pencil embodies a number of features claimed in the applications aforesaid, as well as certain other improvements to which specific reference will hereinafter be made.

A pencil having a hollow casing for its body, a tube arranged axially and immovably therevvithin in spaced relation to the Walls thereof and adapted to contain lead propelling mechanism, a magazine member iXedly surrounding the tube and consisting of a hub and a plurality of partions extending radially therefrom, and a closure for the magazine comprising a head adapted to be removably attached to the upper end of the pencil and to be operatively connected With the lead propelling mechanism, substantially as described.
