Be it known that I, JOHN MIGALE, a citizen of the United States residing at Eaton, in the county of 'P-lGlJlG and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Cash Cabinets, of

My invention relates to safety cash cabinets. 7

It is the object of my invention to provide means o'flocking" a drawer, particularly a cash drawer, in such a way. as to indicate whetherthe drawer has been tampered with by an unauthorized person.

It is .aifurther object of my invention to provide a drawer which is particularly adaptable for use in banks and other places where valuables are kept in drawers and where a plurality of persons either have access to the drawer or may be in its vicinity and it is desired to closethe drawer and prevent its being opened without that fact be- "ing indicated. V

It is a further objectot my invention'to provide an autographic means of indicating, who effected the closingof the. drawer and i put it in this locked position.

It is an additional object to providemeans for rendering such locking mechanism inoperative when desired, and means of maintaining the several parts in operative rela tionship with one another.

The knife plunger 14- is provided with a right -angle portion known as the right arm designated which carries a depending knifeQG. knife retractor 31 which surrounds the lower end of the knife plunger and is carried by it beneath the bottom part 30. The spring is embraced at either end between a washer 32 carried by the knife plunger 14 and a washer 33 embraced between the upper end of the spring 31 and the bottom part 30.

The upper end of the plunger 14 and the knife arm 25 are adapted to be projected through an aperture 34 through the top t. This aperture is partially covered by a rectangular plate 35 having a rectangular aperture 36. It is through this aperture that the upper end of the knife plunger 14 and the knife arm 25 are projected. Beneath this frame 35 there is a glass inspection plate 36. The autograph card 37 is carried beneath the glass inspection plate and is sup ported by the top 4 in a surrounding frame 38. In the passageway 34: on either wall thereof are mounted the plates 39 carrying the retaining or tearing hooks 40 which are directly beneath the card 37. This card is provided with an aperture 41 into which the tearing knife or tearing pin 26 is inserted which prevents the card from being extracted after it has been once inserted down the incline guideway 42 beneath the plate 35 and the glass 36.

Operation.

Referring to Figures 6, 7, 8, where the parts used in the operation of the device can be more clearly seen:

Fig. 6 illustrates the parts in the position they would be left by a clerk after he had put the drawer in locked position.

In Fig. 7 the parts are shown just before the clerk inserts his autographic card or slip of paper on which he has written his name to autographically identify the card as having been inserted by him in position. Having placed the card in position he then shuts the drawer and the parts assume their relationship shown in Fig. 6. If any an authorized person attempts to pull the drawer out, in doing so the bracket support 8 will be moved away from the supporting pin 13 allowing the spring 31 to pull down upon the plunger and tearing knife thus mutilating the card and indicating that some one unauthorized has tampered with the card and the drawer.

The vertical guiding plate 1'? guides the descent of the plunger until the pin 13 clears the bottom of 17, when the drawer can be completely opened. In the completely opened position as in Fig. 8 the pivoted portion 18 of the elevator passes over the pin 13 and drops down to a position in front of it so that it can elevate it when the drawer is closed as the pin will drop upon the surface 19 and thence upon the elevator until the pin drops in the notch 12 at which time the card can be inserted if desired as in approximately the position shown in Fig. 7, whereupon completely closing the drawer the pin 13 will drop down upon the bracket 8.

When the part 18 is held in its position shown in dotted lines, Fig. 2, by the hook 23, this operation will not take place as 13 will not ride upon the top 18.

It will be understood that I do not desire to be confined to the detail embodiment illustrated and described but comprehend with in my invention suitable modifications.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letter Patent, is

1. In combination, a drawer, a cabinet, an autographic card holder in said cabinet, means to mutilate a card, means to elevate the mutilating means above the card position, and means to depress the multilating means to effect the mutilation, and means to retain the card relatively to the im'itilating means to prevent extraction prior to mutilation, and means for preventing the operation of said mutilating means.

2. In combination, a drawer, a cabinet, an autographic card holder, means to mutilate the card, means to elevate the mutilating means above the card position, and means to depress the mutilating means to effect the mutilation, means to retain the card relatively to the mutilating means to prevent extraction prior to mutilation, and cooperating means for assisting in the mutilation of the card.

3. In combination, a drawer, a cabinet, an autographic card holder, means to mutilate the card, means to elevate the mutilating means above the card position, and means to depress the i'i'nitilating means to effect the mutilation, and means to render the elevating means inoperative.

4. In combination, a cabinet, a drawer working therein, an elevator carried thereby, a portion of which is stationary and a portion of which is movable, a reciprocating nu'itilating means carried by the cabinet, n'ieans on the mutilating means for engag ing with the elevator for elevating the mutilating means when the drawer is being closed and being adapted to pass over said means when the drawer is being opened, means to normally depress the mutilating means, and means to support a card beneath the mutilating means to be mutilated by it when the drawer is opened.

5. In combination, a cabinet, a drawer working therein, an elevator carried thereby, a portion of which is stationary and a portion of which is movable, a reciprocating mutilating means carried by the cabinet, means on the mutilating means for engaging with the elevator for elevating the mutilating means when the drawer is being closed and being adapted to pass over said means when the drawer is being opened, means to normally depress the mutilating means, and means to support a card beneath the mutilating means to be mutilated by it when the drawer is opened, and means on the forward end of the elevator for suspending temporarily the mutilating means to permit of the insert-ion of the card in position.

6. In combination, a cabinet, a drawer working therein, an elevator carried thereby, a portion of which is stationaryand a portion of which is movable, a reciprocating mutilating means carried by the cabinet,

means on the mutilating means for engag ing with the elevator for elevating the mutilating means when the drawer is being closed and being adapted topass over said means when the drawer is being opened, means to normally depress the mutilating means, and means to support a card beneath the mutilating means to be mutilated by it when the drawer is opened, and means on the forward end of the elevator for suspending temporarily the mutilating means to permit of the insertion of the'card in position, and means carried by the drawer for supporting the mutilating means in engagement with the card but in a position not to destroy it until the drawer is partially opened.

7. In combination, a cabinet, a drawer working therein, an elevator carried thereby, a portion of which is stationary and a portion of which is movable, a reciprocating mutilating means carried by the cabinet, means on the mutilating means for engaging with the elevator for elevating the mutilating means when the drawer is being closed and being adapted to pass over said ineans when the drawer is being opened, means to normally depress the mutilating means, and means to support a card beneath the mutilating means to be mutilated by it when the drawer is opened, and means on the forward end of the elevator for suspend ing temporarily the mutilating means to permit of the insertion of the card in position, and means carried by the drawer for supporting the mutilating means in engagement with the card but in a position not to destroy it until the drawer is partially opened, and means on the drawer to prevent the disarrangement of the parts when the elevator moves out of engagement with the mutilating means.

8. In combination, a cabinet having an opening in the top thereof, a drawer in said cabinet located beneath said opening, a frame encircling a portion of said opening, means adjacent the aperture in the top for the insertion of a card beneath the frame and the cabinet top, a knife arm and plunger adapted to pass through the apertures in said top, means on the knife for preventing the extraction of the card when in locked position, an elevator carried by the'drawer adapted to engage with the plunger to elevate it, yielding means to normally depress the plunger, and means located beneath the card and cooperating with said knife as it descends to completely mutilate said card.

9. In combination, a cabinet having an aperture in the top thereof, a drawer in said cabinet beneath said opening, a reciprocating'plunger arm carrying a knife adapted to pass through said aperture, yielding means to normally depress said plunger arm and knife, an elevator carried by said drawer having a portion thereof stationary and a portion movable, a knife plunger support adjacent one end of the elevator carried by the drawer, a temporary support 011 one end of the elevator, and vertical guide for the knife plunger carried by the drawer.

10. I11 combination, a cabinet having an aperture in the top thereof, a drawer in said cabinet located beneath said aperture, a reciprocating plunger arm carrying a knife adapted to pass through said aperture, yielding means to normally depress said plunger arm and knife, an elevator carried by said drawer having a portion thereof stationary and a portion movable, a knife plunger support adjacent one end of the elevator carried by the drawer, a temporary support on one end of the elevator, vertical guides for the knife plungercarried by the drawer, a guide near the top and a guide near the bottom for the knife plunger carried by the cabinet.

11. In combination, a cabinet having an aperture in the top thereof, a drawer working in said cabinet and located beneath said aperture, a frame encircling a portion of the aperture, means adjacent the aperture in the top for insertion of a card beneath the frame and the cabinet top, and a mutilating means adapted to be projected through the aperture in the frame.
