For the accomplishment. or thesenandl other objects my improved clipping machine cornprises, briefly stated, a main supporting member comprising a: plate portion carrying a handle fastthereongand a movable toothed cuttingblade beneath the plate portion. A lower toothed cutting; bliade 'is: slidably: detachably' tastened on the, lower. face; of the plate portion and has-teeth engaging under the teeth; of the movablebladesin cutting relfation therewith. The various parts of my new machine are carried. on a main supporting member com-prising: a plate portion 10 (Fig. 3),. a cylindrical, spring guide 11 on the rear edge of the plate member, a post 12 standing on the mid-part of the plate member, and a lined handle 13 extending rearwardly and upwardly from. the upper part ot the guide. Lhe lower face of said: plate member 10 .is provided rearwardly with atransverse under-cut guiderib 1,5; (F l); and. at the for- Wardpart with a transverse gniderecess 16, and guide lugs: 17 depending in opposite ends, o t said recess and, guiding a movable cutting blade- (Fig. 10), slidable in. said recess 16 and provided with forwardly projecting cutting teeth 21 and at each end withguide slots 22 for receiving said lugs 17. The lower face of said blade has a wide groove 25 extending from end to end to provide offset forward and rear lower bearing faces 26 and 27.
A lower cutting blade 30 (Fig. 12) die posed beneath said upper blade and plate portion is provided at the forward edge with forwardly projecting cutting teeth 31 engaging said teeth ofthe upper plate, and at the rear part with a wide undercut groove 32 (Fig. 11) receiving said rib 15 to hold said blade in place, and to permit the lower blade to be removed by sliding the latter along the rib. The forward part of the face of said lo-werblade has a wide groove 33 providing offset bearing faces 34 and 35 engaging respectively said offset bearing faces 26 and 27 of the upper plate, to reduce the bearing surface and maintain close engagement between the teeth 21 and 31 of the blades. A spring latch 38 (Figs; 3, 4 and 23) anchored at its forward end on and passed rearwardly over said plate portion 10 engages in notches 39 and 40 (Figs. 3 and 20) provided respectively in the rear edge of the plate portion 10 and the lower end of said spring guide 11; while aplunger blade 30, and then turned rearwardly to form a manipulating portion. The rear end of thespring may be raised to remove the spring from the notch 40, thereby =to permit the removal of the blade.
The movable handle 44 (Fig. 5) of the machine is pivoted near its forward end on said post 12 and has a forwardly projected down-turned finger 46 projecting through the cut-away recess 45 in the portion 10 and engaging in an actuating notch 47 of the blade 20 to reciprocate the latter.
An adjusting screw plug 48 (Fig. 1) is disposed in the interiorly threaded outer disk 49 is loosely disposed in the inner end of said guide in engagement with a projection 50, Fig. 17, on the handle 44 just to the rear of said post. A spring 51 13) is compressed between said disk and plug, whereby the movable handle 44 and upper blade 20 are yieldably moved by the spring to one limit of their movement. The part of said movable handle 44 just to the I rear of said post engages under an over-- hanging portion 52 (Fig. 3) formed by a slot in said guide 11, whereby the movable handle is held in place.
' A cover shell 55 (Fig. 8) disposed over said plate portion 20 is provided with a positioning opening 56 receiving said post 12, and a downwardly pressed projection 57 engaging in a positioning perforation 58 (Fig. 1) in said cylindrical guide 11.- A pair of downwardly disposedbearing lugs 60 disposed at opposite ends of the forward edge of said cover press on's aid upper blade 20.
A spring washer (51 received on the post 12 and pressing on the cover 55 is pressed upon by a pressure nut 62 received on the post 12 thereby to press said boa-ring lugs 60 on the upper blade thus adjustably to press the blades 20 and 30 together.
The machine is normally operated in the ordinary way. If the pressure of the spring 51 is too weak or too strong, the plug 48 is adjusted. in a order to compress the spring the right amount; and the spring may be removed, as for replacement, merely by removing the plug.
Pressure of engagement between the teeth of the blades is regulated by adjusting the nut 62. The lower plate 30 may be removed or interchanged by merely raising the spring 38, as explained, and sliding the lower plate ofi', as'illustrated in Fig. 19, but the nut 62 should first be loosened, in order to relieve the pressure on the movable blade.
When thelower blade is removed, the movable blade may be removed, and this permits the finger 46 to move leftward in the slot 45 until the handle 44 clears the overhanging portion 52 (Fig. 3) whereupon the handle 44 may be easily slipped from the post 12, the nut 62 and shell cover 55 .flrst having been removed.

In ahair cutting device, the combination witha main supporting member, of an upstanding post on said supporting member, a cylindrical spring guide member on the rear edge of said supporting member, said guide member being provided-with a positioning slot at the top thereof,i a movable toothed cutting blade adapted to be positioned beneath the supporting member, a
' fixed lowertoothed cutting blade co-operating with and. engaging underthe movable blade a movable handle pivoted on said post and engaglng said movable blade; a spring member in said guide co-operating with said movable handle; a cover shell disposed over said blade portion and provided with a positioning opening receiving said post, forward bearing lugs on said cover shell pressing on said movable blade; and a downwardly pressed projection on said cover shell engaging in the perforation of said spring guide; apressure nutfon said post for pressing the bearing lugs on said movable blade; and a flexible clasp extend ing'rearwardly on said main supporting member, sald clasp having an off-set portion in resilient contact with a notch in the cutting blade whereby to retain the same 111 cooperative relation with the ma n support.
