ELECTRIC GLUEPOT.
Application led August 24, 1928. Serial No. 659,158.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, EVEN J. ROHNE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of `Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certainl new and useful Improvements 1n Electricl Gluepots, of which theI following is a speciication. c
One object of my invention is to provide in a glue pot an improved form of heating element.
Another object is to provide means for keeping the side wall of the pot heated to prevent the glue from coagulating along the wall.
Another object is to provide improved means of hea-t insulation for the exterior wall of the pot.
Another object is to provide an improved means of assembling the pot.
Another object is to provide an improved terminal block.
With these and incidental objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combination of parts, the essential elements of which are hereinafter described with reference to the drawing which accompanies and forms a part of this specification.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved glue pot; Figure 2 isa section taken on the line 2-2, Figure 1; Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional detail of the thermostat; and Figure 4 is a top View of the terminal block carrying the binding posts and thermostat and showing a conventional representation of the circuit winding used in the pot.
As shown in the drawing, the glue pot comprises an outer container 1 and a pot 2 positioned therein and having an outturned fiange 3 which rests on the top of the wall of the container.
Studs 4, extending from the pot 2, are threaded for engagement with screws 5 passing through the bottom wall 6 of the container to solidly hold the pot in the container.
The winding 7 surrounds the wall only of the pot, to which it is preferably cemented, and a filler 8 of corrugated asbestos paper helps to align the pot in the container and conserve the heat in the container.
Three insulated wires run from the terminal 9 and one from the terminal 10, which is the center post of the thermostat 11.
One of the thermostatic contacts controls the Wire 12 and the other the wire 18 so-that when the connection is made to the pot from an outside source of current the loop from 10 to 9 is permanently across the source of current supply as long as the connection is maintained, but the circuits 12 to 9 and 13 to 9 Will be interrupted by the thermostatic contacts when the predetermined heat has been attained.
The wires' 14 and 15 lead out to a pair of terminals 16 for connection with the ordinary socket plug.
It will be noted that the termina-l block 17 has the ends thereof bevelled as at 18 and 19 and these bevelled edges fit into the coacting bevelled edges of the terminal block' aperture of the container 1, and screws 20, with Washers 21, lock the terminal block firmly into the pot.' This method of fastening in the terminal block, together with the cementing in of the container at the outturned flange of the pot, provides a substantially weather-proof and water-proof protection for theJ heating elements.
A cap 22, with insulated liners 23, encloses the wiring at the terminals and legs 24 support the pot at such a height 'as to keep this cap free from accidental contact.
While I have described my invention and illustrated it in one particular design, I do not wish it to be understood that I limit myself to this construction', as it is evident the application of the invention may be varied in many ways within the scope of the following claims.
Claims:
1. In an electric glue pot the combination with a container, of a pot positioned therein and cemented thereto at the top of said container, a heating element Wound around the outer wall of said pot and cemented thereto, a terminal block for the terminals of said heating element, said block having its edges bevelled, fitting into the lbevelled edges of an aperture in the bottom of said container.
2. In an electric glue pot the combination witha container, of a pot positioned therein and cemented thereto at the top of said container, a heating element wound around the outer wall of said pot and cemented thereto, a terminal block for the terminals of said its' edges heating element, said block having d f e ges` o bevelled, tting into the bevelle an aperture in the bottom of said container and an insulated cap covering said terminal block. 3.
