E. BATH.
Bands for Hose-Couplings. N0 154 5 1 8 Q 7 Patented ug.25,1 874.
WE GRAPHIC COJHOYOJ-ITHJSBHH PARK PLACE, N.Yv
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMIL BATH, OF YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN BANDS FOR HOSE-COUPLINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,518, dated August 2 5, 1874; application filed August 13, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, EMLL BATH, of the city,-
connty, and State of New York, have in vented a certain new and Improved Band for Hose- (Jouplings, of which the following is a specification:
This invention consists in a metallic band, provided at one end with a cross-bar or button, and at the opposite end with one or more hooks, in combination with shoulders formed behind the button at one end, and behind the hooks at the opposite end, in such a manner that, when the bandis placed round the end of the hose which is to be secured to a coupling, the button and the hooks can be conveniently forced together and made to interlock with each other, and thereby the band is caused to retain the hose firmly in position and, if desired, the button can be disengaged from the hooks and the hose can be detached from the coupling without trouble.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanyin g drawing, in which Figure 1 represents a side view of a hose-coupling with my band.
Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan of the band detached.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawing, the letter 'A designates a band, which is cast of brass or malleable iron, or made of any other suitable material. This band is provided at one end with a cross-bar or button, a, and at its opposite end with hooks b, so that, when the two ends of the band are brought together, the button can be made to engage with the hooks. Behind the button a is formed a shoulder, c, and a similar shoulder, 01, is formed behind the hooks b, so
that when the band is placed around the en of the hose B, which is to be secured to the coupling 0, Figs. 1 and 2, a suitable tool can with two or more sets of hooks, as shown in Fig. 3; but if the band is to be used for only one size of hose, a single set of hooks is sufficient, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
By means of my band the operation of connecting a hose to, or disconnecting the same from, a coupling can be effected with little trouble or loss of time, and it will be readily understood that my bands can be made to suit hose of any desired size.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A band for hose-couplings, provided at its ends with shoulders c d, and having atone end a cross-bar or button, a, and at its opposite end one or more sets of hooks, b, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 5th day of August, 1874.
EMIL BATH.
