' J. L. COONEY BEATER ROLL- Filed Feb. 1925 Patented July 7, 1925..
JOHN L. COONEY, OZ? ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
' BEATER ROLL.
Application filed. February 2, 1925. Serial No. 6,282.
To all whom it may concern.-
it known that I. JOHN L. CooNnY, a sftiaen ot' the United States, residing at :ie. in the county of Erie and State of .nnsylrania, have invented new and use- :tul Improvements in Beater Rolls of which the following is a specification.
This invention is designed to improve and simplify the construction of heaters particu larly such heaters as are used in paper mak- It has to do more particularly with the manner of securing the beater blades and the inserts between the blades.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings as follows 1 shows a central vertical section Fig. 2 a section on the line 2-2 in Fig 1 Fig. 3 a section on the line 3-3 in Fig. 1.
i a section on the line 4-4 in Fig. 1.
ig. 5 an end view of one of the cove plates 6 an enlarged view of one of the plate securing bolts.
Fig. 7 a perspective view of one of the securing wedges.
Fig. 8 a perspective view of the bolt locking segment.
1 marks the shaft on which the beater is mounted, 2 end webs or discs mounted on the shaft. and 3 a central disc. Arranged around the disc are the blade rings 4;, these rings having the axial slots 5 extending through them. An annular shoulder 5* eX- tends from the rings and this shoulder is tree of obstructions on its outer surface so that it may be readily machined. Blades 6 are arranged in the slots 5 and rest on the shoulders 5, the shoulders forming abase tor the plates.
7 ()n the central web bolts 10 extend through the shoulder 5 the heads 11 of these bolts being arranged in pockets in the locking ring 12, the locking ring being formed in segments with ears 13 and are secured to the shoulder by screws 1 1 eX- i through the cars 13. With this istruetion the bolts are put in place and locked inst turning by the locking plate. ll e' ge blocks 15 are arranged between the blades outside the shoulder 5 on the web Those blocks have the sockets 16 which reee re the nuts 17 that the blocks may be ti :ened by clamping the blades in place at the center.
Plates are arranged on the outer faces of the miter webs 2 covering the bolts 9.
ll hat I claim as new is 1. In a heater roll the combination of supporting rings having slotted rims and base shoulders extending from the rims; blades in the slots; and bolts extending through the shoulders and having wedgeshaped heads between the blades.
2. In a heater roll the combination of supporting rings having slotted rims and see shoulders extending from the rims; es in the slots resting on the shoulders; bolts extending through the shoulders and having wedge-shaped heads between the blades.
8. In a heater roll, the combination oi: havin slotted rims and base shoulders extending axially from the rims; blades in the slots; bolts extending through the should rs and having wedge-shaped heads be tween the blades: and wood strips between th blades having their outer surfaces flush with the ends of the bolt heads.
1-. In a heater. the combination of two end supporting rings and an intermediate aortiug ring said rings having slotted and shoulders extending axially therei; beater blades arranged in the slots;
extending radially through the shoulheads wi t n the blades through which the bolts extend; and nuts on the bolts operating on the blocks.
In a beater. the combination of two end supporting rings and an intermediate supporting ring. said rings having slotted rims and shoulders extending axially therefrom: beater blades arranged in the slots; bolts extending radially through the shoulders of the intermediate ring having heads Within the ring; Wedge blocks between the blades through which the bolts extend; ant nuts on the bolts operating on the blocks, said blocks having sockets for receiving the nuts.
6. In a beater, the COll'lblIliLtlOll of two end supporting rings and an intermediat supporting ringysaid rings having slotted rims and shoulders extending axially therefrom; beater blades arranged in the slots; bolts extending radially through the shouldue of the intermediate ring havin heads Within the ring"; Wedge blocks between the blades through which the bolts extend; nets on the bolts operating on the blocks; and means withinthe shoulder for locking the bolts against turning.
T. In beater, the combination of two end supporting rings and an intermediate snpportii'ig ring, said rings having slo"e rinis andshonlders extending axially t from; beater blades arranged in the slo bolts extending radially through the shoal ders ot the intermediate ringhaving heads within the ring; Wedge blocks between the blades through which the bolts extend; nuts on the bolts operating on the blocks; and means within the shoulder for looking the bolts against turning comprising a notched plate secured to the ring.
8. En a beater roll, the combination of two end rings and an intermediate ring said rings having; slotted rims and base ionlders extending mile-ll} from the rims;
la its resting on the shoulders; jhronp h the shoulders of the Still bolts having); Wedge-shaped netn'eei'i the blades; bolts extending illOllgli the shoulder of the intermediate \r'th the heads Within the ring; means perating on the heads for locking said mentioned bolts against turning; wedgeied blocks between the blades through h the outer end of the last-mentioned said bolts operatbo s extend; and nuts on in on said blocks.
In testimon; whereof I have hereunto set my hand JOHN L. COONEY.
