ELIAS VICTOR SEIXAS, OF PHILADELPHIA, Pni iNsYLvAmAJ UNIVERSAL GAS-WATEB-HEATER CONTROL.
Application filed August 15, 1924. Serial N'o. 732330 object of the invention s to provide means whereby the controlling of the ignition of the burner in the gas operated water heater may be controlled from points rcmote from the burner itself.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a control means by means of which the burner valve may be opened from any desired position within the building without requring the operator's going up and down the stairs to the heater which is usually positioned within the basement of the house, and also to 'provide e control means constructed so that by a slight upward pressure at any point on the control means, it may be released to permit the closing of the valve and the cutting ofi of the supply of fuel to the burner.
Other objects of the invention will appear in the following detail description, and in the accompanying drawngs which shows a diagrammatic View of a building illustrating the improved control positioned therein.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the improved control is associated with a water 'heater 1 of any approved construction which includes the usual approved type of pilot light and burner (not shown) together with the valve structure 2 for controlling the supply of gas to the heater 1. The valve structure 2 has a control lever 3 connected thereto and extending transversely r therefrom which control lever is in turn ing to the uppermost floor or to the uppermost desired point in the building, depending upon the limits from which it is desired to control the heater. The rod 8 has eyelets 10 thereon at spaced points, one in each of the respective rooms through which it extends and it has a final eyelet 11 on its uppermost end. Hool s 12 are swingably supported from any suitable support within the building and when the rod 8 is moved 'upwardly one of the hooks close to which the operator is standing is slipped through one of the eyelets 10 for holding the rod and the chain .4 upwardly. The upward 'movement of the rod will rock the lever 3 and open the valve permitting the fuel pass ing to the burner to be ignited from the pilot light. When the water ha's been heated sufliciently, the operator gives a slight upward pressure on the rod 8 which will cause a releasing action of the hook 12, permitting the hook to fall by its own weight out of the eyelet of which it has been engaged, and allowing the rod 8 to fall downwardly into its nornal position under its own weight, while the chain 4 and lever 3 will be moved downwardly into valve closing position by means of the weight 14 on the lower end of the chain; If it is so desired, an eyelet 15 may be carried by the chain 4 in close proximity to the burner 1 for co-operation with a hook 16 which may be Suspended or supported in any suitable manner, such as by the flexible support 17, thereby permitting the control to be operated from a point in close'proximity to the heater 1.
It is, of course, to be understood, that the invention may be constructed in various other manners and the parts associated in different relations, and therefore, I do not desire to be limited in any manner, except as set forth in the claims hereunto appended.
What I claim is 2- 1. The combination with 'the control valve of the burner of a gas water heater, of a control rod, flexible means connecting said control rod to said valve, eyelets on said rod and swingably supported hooks'for engagement in said eyelets.
2. The combination with the fuel control valve, of a gas water heater, of a lever connected to the valve, a control rod,-flexible means connecting the' control rod to the level', eyelets on the 'od at spaced points,
and swngably supported hooks for engagement With said eyelets.
3. The combnaton With the fuel control 5 valve, of a gas Water heater, of a lever connected to the valve, a control rod, flexble means connectng the control rod to the I level', eyelets on the rod :it spaced points,
swngably supported hooks for engagement With said eyelets, and a Weight on said 10 flexble means for Operating said lever and ValVe upon releasng engagement between any of said hooks and eyes. z N
